(21,328 posts)The diss about these small rural counties is that they just don't have very many voters so the aggregate count of arbitrary geographical divisions just isn't that relevant to the process. Yes, he does well with the rural demographic, but there just aren't that many votes out there.

(13,340 posts)It just so happens that more actual PEOPLE voted for Hillary Clinton last night. The votes of the people who voted for Sanders still matter, of course. There were just fewer of them, and their candidate lost.

(52,166 posts)not more. He lost because he got fewer votes. He lost more CD because she won the areas that have more CD.

(685 posts)There are 27 congressional districts in NY.
He won 6. She won 21.
Congressional districts are, generally, population centric lines drawn.
Counties are, generally, land boundary lines.
If trees could vote, he woulda killed it last night.
Delegates are awarded by population votes not acreage won.

(11,619 posts)The General Election is to choose a government from the options available.
The freedom to join, leave, or not join a party is protected by the Constitution under the 14th amendment. Right of Association People are free not to join a party, but the party can also set the rules about choosing its standard bearer.
To sum up: The primary and general have different purposes. Freedom of Association under the 14th amendment grants parties the right to choose their standard bearer.
It is really that simple.
