Benchmark Politics ?@benchmarkpol 4m4 minutes ago
Polls had Clinton splitting the white vote 50%/50%. With 75% with AAs and 57% with hispanics, projection right now would be 55%-45%.
Black voters: 75% Clinton - 25% Sanders
Clinton winning hispanics 57%-43%.
From the exit polls we don't know her floor, but her ceiling is probably 62%
Our predicted benchmark is Clinton 57% Sanders 43% from a week ago and we still feel confident in that benchmark
NY Dem electorate (first wave of exits):
White 62%
Black 21%
Latino 13%
Asian 1%
MSNBC reports: 64% would be excited or optimistic with Clinton as president.

(456 posts)Hillary supporter, but I'll admit I find Bernie's campaign to be more energizing.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)like sour grapes, and I think it is bad for November. Slamming Planned Parenthood was a turning point for me. I thought it was as stupid as it was just....bitter.

(8,175 posts)Come on people, there has been ugly shit coming from both sides, and it's your preference that determines how you perceive it.

(47,209 posts)I think SBS was doing better before he started to go negative. To me, he is burning too many bridges with the broad brush attacks on other Dems and "establishment" people. I give him a lot of credit for resisting a negative campaign, credit that I could never extend to people here on ether side of it.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)calling him racist and sexist have been beyond acceptable.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)She never called him a racist. People here were lied about with claims they called SBS racist. Never seen such bullshit.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)it was not bullshit. Claiming he didn't value the black vote, ad nauseum.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)He had not one word in his stump speeches or website about womens reproductive rights or issues important to POC- for at least three weeks. Nothing. Anyone who said so was accused of calling him a racist or worse. That was a big fuck up.

(8,175 posts)but thanks for playing!

(47,209 posts)were accused of saying it for exactly that reason. I saw it, and it was fucking stupid.

(1,511 posts)And this doesn't value the black president...
And when I say that I am saying she is a racist.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)But...thanks!

(1,511 posts)Phrasing is something that is more language based and less specific forum based. Also are you sure she is not a member here?

(1,511 posts)Claiming the did not value the black vote is NOT calling him a racist, and pretty fucking offensive.
He had not one word in his stump speeches or website about womens reproductive rights or issues important to POC- for at least three weeks. Nothing. Anyone who said so was accused of calling him a racist or worse. That was a big fuck up.
Is his website and his speeches on the website?
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)and when people noted it- the response was to deny he was racist- when no one said he was racist. that went on for weeks.

(30,251 posts)That really angered me. He clarified his statement later on saying that he was referring to her policies, but too late. When you say that the most qualified person in many years to run for president is not qualified to do the job, then you're off the rails. It was particularly grating because that person also happened to be a woman, and as any woman or minority knows full well, the incline of the ladder we have to climb seems always steeper than for white men.

Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)which shows she said he was unqualified. As I said Sanders said she said it, it was not true, he had to back track.

(30,058 posts)See, a talking point gone array.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)She called him unqualified (not she said he was) by implying he was.
You know exactly what I mean. It doesn't matter if it's implied or outright spoken. The listeners get the gist of what is being implied.
He never actually called her unqualified either. He said if she does these things she is unqualified.
But go ahead and keep your narrative going. I know it's all you've got.

(1,788 posts)and he goes and proves her right by reading a headline and not the story....and guess what, she NEVER said that. Now if you are mad because she didn't sing his praises, well he can do his own campaigning. That's not her job. She's a bit busy.

(29,277 posts)The message declared that she was going to change her tactic to "disqualify and destroy" his candidacy and put the party back together afterward. I personally saw/heard this as it happened. This preceded the Post headline, which was a day or two later.
Beacool
(30,251 posts)Despite Joe Scarborough egging her on and asking the question more than once. On the other hand, Sanders outright said that she was not qualified to be president at one of his rallies in PA. He mentioned a WAPO headline that proved to be erroneous. Both him and the headline garnered three Pinocchios from the WAPO's own fact checkers.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)Did Hillary Clinton say Bernie Sanders 'not qualified' to be president? Not directly
"So is he qualified?" Scarborough said, asking if she thought Sanders was "ready to be president." Clinton said she thought Sanders hadn't done his homework and "that does raise a lot of questions."
Kinda like Sanders said "not directly"

passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)Nobody said she she should run his campaign or praise him.
Yes, she's competing against him.
Two points here that have absolutely nothing to do with this discussion.
Whooosh!

(978 posts)He wouldn't be running himself. That's what's an election is all about. Making the case of ones own qualifications and the opponents lack of such.
Besides, do you think that his "not qualified" came out of thin air, orfrom a headline from WaPo he saw only minutes before entering the stage?
And don't you think it was a bit disingenuous by Hillary to insiniauted that he didn't know what he was talking about regarding the banks (policy stance supported by 170 economists) when he actually was right all along? Saying "he hasn't done his homework" is just another phrasing for "he is not qualified!"
If you can cheer tolerate all the artful smears from Hillary and her surrogates and her Karl Rovian ties with David Brock, I wonder why you are having such issues with "I don't think that someone who takes money from large corporations and vote in their favor when in power over the people is qualified".
Bernie never said directly that she was not qualified. He said that her policies makes her unfit for office.
One question more.
What's the fascination of getting decade long reruns in the WH? Don't you get tired of plucking from the same pool of incompetents and the same names all the time?
Will people have problems remembering the name of a new president not named Clinton or Bush?

(1,825 posts)...given that capturing a sizable amount of them as voters is crucial to victory in November.
But alas, I don't think they were polled -- New York, unfortunately, is a closed primary state.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)it seems likely that he feels they would break for him. However, contrary to common DU notions, it turns out that majorities of independents in a majority of states so far have voted for Hillary.
It was a surprise to me too. I probably should spend less time in DU's little echo-chamber world and more checking out the real world.

(1,825 posts)Why do you think Hillary has that 55% disapproval rating, when Republicans are just 30 to 35% of the population?
Finally, what needs to be STRONGLY EMPHASIZED is not how Independents have voted thus far (with primaries going back as far as February), but how they are likely to vote in November.
