Related: About this forumARE LIBERALS TWICE AS SMART AS CONSERVATIVES?
Are liberals twice as smart as conservatives? It's hard to say. I have heard estimates of anywhere from one-and-a-half times as smart all the way up to five times as smart. A Pew research poll found that while 55% of scientists call themselves Democrats, only 6% call themselves Republicans. At the other end of the spectrum, the number of Tea Party members calling themselves liberals is slightly above 0.0%, while the number calling themselves conservatives is just under 100.0%
Liberals read a lot and are open-minded enough to listen to other viewpoints. If they put stock in the viewpoints of media figures, it's likely to be those of pundits from Public Radio and MSNBC where everyone has a college degree, and often an advanced degree. When conservatives read, it's the error-filled books written by school dropouts who host or appear on conservative radio and TV shows. Conservatives are closed-minded and delight in flagging liberal posts, or, failing that, resorting to name calling when confronted with evidence that conflicts with what they were told by Rush Limbaugh.
Liberals vote in their own interests. Conservatives vote the way they are told by the propagandists at Republican headquarters for policies that help only 1% of the people.
It's not a perfect measure of intelligence, but IQ test scores can be useful. Here is a representative sampling of liberal and conservative IQs. All scores are estimates:
A sampling of IQ test scores of liberals: Keith Olbermann 160, Bill Clinton 157, Barack Obama 146, Joe Biden 126, Jimmy Carter 180, Albert Einstein 220, Jesus Christ 300.
A sampling of IQ test scores of conservatives: Sean Hannity 86, Paul Ryan 91, Mitt Romney 103, Rush Limbaugh 90, Joe The Plumber 47, Sarah Palin 0.

(23,998 posts)If you wanted your post taken seriously, you might have omitted that little non-factoid.
JEFF9K
(1,935 posts)No offense, but "factoid" is an invalid word. The suffix "oid" means similar to. So factoid is not a small fact, as people think, but something that is similar to a fact, and therefore untrue. I picked 300 for Jesus Christ as an educated guess. I didn't have time for all the research, but believe the highest IQ ever recorded is about 220.

(23,998 posts)Instead of arguing about the real problem with your OP--your citation of the IQ of an individual whose existence has never even been proven--you attempt to shift the focus to a discussion of "factoid."
At this point, any response from you would, in all likelihood, be so devoid of insight as to make further discussion between us a waste of my time.
Good evening.

(290 posts)Democrats are more center-right these days compared to Liberals who are still considered the true Left.
A viable third party needs to be made because i would guess there is at least half of so-called democrats who dont feel this party identifies them.

(432 posts)Myself:
1) Fiscally more conservative than many friends who vote democrat.
2) Socially more liberal than many friends who vote democrat.
3) Supported the war in Afghanistan, not in Iraq, but swayed latterly by views like those of Hitchens.
4) Abortion, frankly, I have a problem with it... but don't think its govt right to legislate.
5) Romney is a deeply empty barrel rolling around at the bottom of the ocean.
I'm in a similar place.
I disavow both parties. Neither fully reflects me, and my views get me shouted down in both.
Obama, however is a great president who does try to govern from the middle. Romney is just awful... just his record as a "businessman" turns my stomach.

(432 posts)Regardless of your view on individual policies, you can only choose Obama.
He is a statesman, a diplomat, a thinking-person.
He's made plenty of mistakes over the last four years but that is the nature of governance, not the man.
Romney, opportunist is probably a compliment.
Bush, remember him, well, lets not go there.

(1,014 posts)That last bit about having a low IQ being a character flaw was just heee-larious to me. Yep. Har dee har.
I have nothing at all against DECENT people with low intelligence.

(1,016 posts)Just look at the states and cities who have the higher learning standards.
They break down by the least educated states, Mississippi and the south lowest
Most educated Mass. New York, Conn. Vermont, all liberal and better educated
I live in Texas and I drive to San Leon a poor trailer park city, mostly republicans and irony most receiving welfare or some form of government assistance

(2,800 posts)Irrational thinking and behavior is a requirement to be an RW nutjob.
Most of us don't qualify.
BTW, I'm talking about the followers.
Their leaders are just greedy, power hungry and really short sighted. Is that crazy or sick?

(99,710 posts)But some of your I Q estimates for liberals and conservatives are absurd.
I.Q. is related to educational achievement. I despise Willard Romney but you need something higher than an average I.Q. (103) to attain a MBA and JD from Harvard.
JEFF9K
(1,935 posts)I was trying to make a point in a somewhat humorous and hopefully entertaining way. If I had to guess at Mitt's IQ I would say at least 125.

(53,041 posts)He's not stupid per se, but he sucks at politics.
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)There is a high correlation between IQ score and the SAT, LSAT, and GMAT scores. And Willard scored high enough to go to Harvard. But there is also such a thing as emotional intelligence and there I believe Willard wouldn't score nearly as high.

(1,935 posts)Some of the numbers for liberals are educated guesses and some, like Olbermann's, are based on what I've read.
