2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumContested Convention doesn't mean what you think it means
Never in their entire history have Superdelegates gone against the pledged delegates leader at the convention and overturned the will of the voters. Not once. Nor will they do so when there is only two candidates left in the race and one person has to have a clear lead going into the convention.
In this case, either Clinton or Bernie will be selected the nominee on the first ballot, and we're done. There will be no second ballot or third ballot or pledged delegates moving support from one candidate to the other causing mass hysteria. It is just not happening.

As for me and my hard nosed data crunching, I say Clinton beats Trump without a problem.

(42,862 posts)These types of things are pure fantasy and suggest to me that Bernie's supporters know in their heart-of-hearts that he's not going to be the nominee. They just can't bring themselves to say the words out loud or to face the reality of his situation.
Go, Hillary! We love you!

(47,803 posts)All issues reading the systemic concentration of wealth and power will disappear from the Election and national discussion once Clinton is nominated.
It will be a battle of "You'e more corrupt."....."No you're more corrupt."...""your husband is a sexual deviant"...."No you are a sexual deviant."
"Go team Go. All we need to do is defeat the GOP and all will be wonderful. Rah, Rah,Rah."

(47,803 posts)Even if Clinton gets her coronation, I want to see those who oppose the Tule by Corporations and Wall St. bring some reality to the proceedings, instead of just a well-oiled empty pageant.

(146,324 posts)First ballot, absolutely. Then, the convention becomes a campaign event for the nominee.
If Bernie wants the nomination, he's going to need to come to the convention with a majority of pledged delegates. That's the only way. I doubt that is really possible at this point. We'll know more on the next two Wednesdays.
I spoke briefly with my congressional representative this weekend at our state senate district convention. I sympathized with her about the volume of attacks on her FB page regarding her support for Hillary Clinton. She said, "I'll be voting at the convention for the candidate with the most pledged delegates. I hope it will be Hillary."
And there it is.
