He wouldn't need an earthly, raping intermediary. He didn't need one for the Virgin Mary, right?
Try this one on your Fundagelical associates when discussing Mourdock et.al. and watch their heads explode.

(3,894 posts)which does seem to be the goal of the Bible's teachings, it's okay for men to rape.

(3,894 posts)One has to wonder why such a "good" woman would have chosen to do something she knew that god said she should be killed for, . . . adultery.
Mary said "I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say." With that the angel left her.

(3,894 posts)...but ...err, There is several different types of Consent tho. If a woman is 'actually' consenting, well a woman's body has a way of shutting that down.

God was a rapist.
I WILL try this out on the next fundie I argue with.

I know, I'm going to hell for that....

(115,735 posts)occurs in Greek mythology. The god Zeus is said to have assumed the shape of a swan, and in that form raped Leda - who then laid two eggs, from which her children hatched.
A swan? Really?
Why would Zeus become a swan, apart from the fact that it is one of the very few birds that actually has a penis? Why not some kind of mammal? Wouldn't any woman get pretty freaked out if a swan started coming on to her? Actually, I guess I'd also be pretty freaked out if it were a bear or a jaguar or a goat...
Back to the point, though, gods having their way with mortal women for various purposes does seem to be a recurring theme in many religions.
But a swan?

(3,894 posts)we still have to cave to ideologies that embrace myths whether it be xianity, or islam, or judaism. or any others I'm not currently thinking about.

(45,319 posts)They are now Mittvangelicals, or Fundamormons, and Mormon theology says the virgin birth is not true at all. The whole 'one God' and 'virgin birth' thing has been replaced with materials about Kaloob and how one can become a God yourself, if you are male. Being white really helps too. But Virgin Birth? No. Muslims and Christians believe that, not Mormogelicals.
Lionessa
(3,894 posts)a virgin birth.
Though cute, combining evangelicalism and Mormonism doesn't work at all. Not the same. And since the Olympics in SLC, Mormons now claim Jesus was Christ ( literally the son of god), though previously they claimed he was only a disciple, regardless of the "jesus christ" in the full name of their religion.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,735 posts)Evangelicals (Baptists, Assembly of God, etc.) are "traditional" Christians who believe in the literal truth of the Bible (which is tricky, but that's another discussion). Most evangelicals as well as mainstream Christians (Presbyterians, Lutherans, Catholics, etc.) consider Mormons to be either heretics or not Christians at all. This is why Mittens hasn't discussed his religion very much, while other politicians tend to make a big deal of theirs.
