Objectively Speaking...

MY BOLD PREDICTION: Next Week At This Time the Romney Campaign Will Begin Its Ohio Withdrawal

if you are managing Romney's campaign, and IF by middle of next week outside polls AND your internal polls are showing you 4-5 points behind in Ohio I think you have to pack it up in that state and attempt your "every other state" strategy.

i mean why keep pouring resources into a state that you seem to can't make any headway in, and depriving other states you possibly CAN win in the process. by staying in Ohio he's essentially doubling down (hate to bring that phrase back) on losing the election by not moving the race elsewhere.

so if I'm sitting there next week it looking like there is no way I'm gonna get Ohio and WI in my column then I have no choice but to try and hit the other states which all seem to still be within reach (assuming none of these other states go Obama +outside margin of error). at that point Romney has no choice but to pull outa Ohio and reassign resources, time, and $$$ to NV, CO, Iowa, FL, & VA.

it would be foolish for him to keep spending resources in a state like Ohio thats not budging when he can still possibly swing the other above states his way.

what do you guys think? (and by pulling out of Ohio I don't mean a public pull out....I mean a discrete shift of resources without conceding the state)

They have enough money. Pulling out of Ohio will do very little, if anything, to improve their chances elsewhere.

And while Ohio may be a long shot, it's not nearly as much of them getting 270 without OH.

Which is why they keep saying how close it is, and pretending they have a good chance there.

Without Ohio, they are dead in the water.

they will still put up the facade of campaigning in Ohio...

but in reality..behind the scenes they will have conceded it and moved on. just my opinion.

They MUST continue pouring money into Ohio, and will probably amp it up to show they believe they can win it. Otherwise, they risk depressing their entire base who has yet to vote.

No modern Republican candidate has won the presidency without Ohio. That single fact would make pulling out of Ohio the most depressing move for morale any campaign could commit.

To make a comparison, There was the 2000 Rove gambit. Rove threw money at California later in the 2000 race, trying to goad Gore into reacting. Had Gore reacted and moved money to California in reaction, it would have been a mortal blow to morale and Bush would have handily won both the electoral college and the popular vote. As it was, Bush barely squeaked out an electoral victory after much anguish and manipulation and he failed miserably in the popular vote.

and to pull out of Ohio would give their narrative that they have momentum a rude awakening and they aren't about to do that. They will keep in Ohio, just like McCain stayed in PA in 2008 until the bitter end.
