2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSome Revolution: Bernie has fewer total votes than Donald Trump!
Not only is Bernie trail Hillary Clinton in total popular vote, but he also trails Donald Trump. In fact he's only marginally ahead of Ted Cruz -- Sanders 6, 946, 913 - Cruz, 6, 263, 349.
Some revolution.
I know, I know, Bernie folks black voters from the south, older women, latinos, don't count.
And it's definitely not fair to count votes rather than attendance at rallies.
When Bernie gets swamped on Tuesday in New York, will he finally see that the revolution has failed?
Inquiring minds want to know.

(17,438 posts)The Patriots were outnumbered by the British. Revolution is coming regardless of who wins the presidential election! This movement is more than about an election. The message of Ghandi didn't die with him. The message and movement of MLK, Jr. didn't die with him. And this revolution isn't going to end regardless of the outcome of the election. A new day is dawning and the New Dems and the Old Repubs won't stop it.

(8,758 posts)Everybody is making noise about the Presidential race, but after 7 years with Obama, we know nothing changes unless the House and Senate change, plus the states on every level.
What is the 'revolution' doing on the state level?

(4,187 posts)It looks especially bad for Bernie, considering the large percentage of Republicans who refuse to vote for Trump.
And yet we're supposed to believe that Bernie would do better against the Republican candidate than Hillary.

Get a little bit at a time the way the far right wing took over the GOP.
I don't think it's very likely for a couple of reasons.
The first reason is I think that in the main the people who are making up the Bernie Revolution
are only involved in the big ticket elections.
They don't seem to stick around after the rallies. They also don't seem to have much in the way of patience.
When they run up against the reality that Bernie is doing great as a protest candidate but isn't likely to get much beyond that
they get angry.
Makes me think it's more of a social phenom than a serious political movement.
I understand losing is frustrating but winning requires being prepared.
Hillary has been preparing for this for decades and in 2008 when Obama came out of nowhere and won the
primary she went out and campaigned for him and congressional Democrats and doubled down on being prepared in 2016.
Bernie didn't decide to become a Democrat til last year and then only so he could run for president as a Democrat.
He's earned no loyaly or alliance from the party members.
The second reason is this.
The young voters who are all in for Bernie now and want revolution now.
Well they're going to continue to get older and cop into real world issues like families kids jobs and all the rest
of the stuff that happens to you after you leave college and join the rest of us.
There will always be hard left progressives but they'll never be the main part of the party.
Sometimes they'll vote with the party and sometimes they won't.
In 2000 a lot of them didn't see a difference between Gore and Bush.
I wonder now if they wish they had that to do over again.
