"The only moral abortion is my abortion"

http://mypage.direct.ca/w/writer/anti-tales.html

Privately pro-choice, but publicly pro-life... How messed up is that?

I think this is the sentiment that drives women who aren't Christian wingnuts to tolerate and even support the likes of Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Paul Ryan, etc. These women feel as though the freedom to choose is irrelevant to them because:

A) They're way too responsible — unlike those sluts who use abortion as birth control — to ever have to seek an abortion, or...

B) If they did have to, God forbid, get an abortion, it would be totally justified, unlike the abortions that those other murderous whores get.

To me, this is so typical of the narcissism and selfishness of American conservatism. Conservatives are excessively judgmental yet are always willing to make exceptions for themselves because they're just special snowflakes. You can see this in every aspect of life, whether it be military service, extramarital affairs, homosexual relationships, welfare, government aid, and so forth.

The conservative obsession with religion is narcissism at its highest because religion is little more than the self-ordaining of one's own fairy tale myths as somehow truer and greater than everybody else's fairy tale myths. The conservative's inability to accept evolution is directly due to his inability to accept that his tribal group is NOT at the center of some grand creator's plan.

Narcissism, selfishness, and a total lack of empathy. That's GOP-style conservatism for you nowadays. A piece of shit like Joe Walsh is their perfect standard-bearer.
