Gallup: US Unemployment down to 7.3%

Last edited Thu Oct 25, 2012, 01:55 PM - Edit history (1)

Gallup is usually a little bit lower than the actual rate, but I hope this bodes well for the actual numbers next Friday. (Gallup had it at 7.7% on Oct 5, when the official number dropped to 7.8%, so hopefully they are close.)

If the BLS number were to drop to 7.4% or even 7.5% 4 days before the election, you would literally see FOX News correspondent's heads explode on TV.

If it correlates to the October unemployment number, it's solely because there is little seasonality to consider this time of year.

In other months it will vary wildly because it's not seasonally adjusted.

For example, in December the Gallup unemployment rate will fall quite a bit, but that's a temporary bump due to seasonal hiring.
