October Surprises just arent what they used to be.
Carnival barker and Mitt Romney surrogate Donald Trump (R-Absurdity) set the gossip mill churning this week when he declared he would make a major announcement about President Obama. Its very big bigger than anybody would know, he told Fox News Channel.
Would it be the bombshell revelation that Obama sold cocaine in college? The discovery of divorce papers for the president and the first lady?
A betting house set 250/1 odds that Trump would prove that Obama is from another planet, and 500/1 odds that he would announce that he is Obamas father. The disclosure that Obama is not American was a relatively safe bet, at 2/5 odds.
But Trump surprised them all by announcing .?.?. absolutely nothing. Instead, he released at high noon on Wednesday what had the look of a ransom video, in which the Donald himself, appearing puffy and unwell, played a character that was part Dr. Evil, part Crazy Eddie.

Tutonic
(2,522 posts)Good article. Obviously Trump gave to the press some of what is routinely rejected by Malania--a soft and smelly Oscar Meyer.

(46,130 posts)Too many times has he "announced" an event or an intention and the media holds the presses until Trump inevitably shows his hand and it's usually empty.
How many times now has he announced he's going to run for president and doesn't? Wasn't it 2000 when he went as far as saying he'd have Oprah on his ticket? He likely never intended to run for office as much as it was free publicity for his (ghost-written) book on "success". This year he promised a debate days before the last primary election and had to retreat when all but one candidate didn't sign up for it.
Whenever Trump calls the media because of his "important" opinion on something, you should always think that the motive is free publicity. He's a combination of William Randolph Hearst, P.T. Barnum, and Rupert Murdoch on how to exploit and to employ opportunism via the media.
Ideally, I'd prefer for him to return to selling overpriced real estate and to shut up.
