I would like to know what the 56K of deductions were also
aquamarina
(1,865 posts)I make less than half of what BS makes and my deductions are nearly $27k - mostly in the form of mortgage interest and real estate taxes. The rest is for depreciation on a rental property and charitable contributions. This return is about as simple as it gets. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with it or that he is hiding anything. Good flipping grief.

aquamarina
(1,865 posts)This is a typical return for the majority of upper middle class taxpayers. It becomes more of an issue when the person earns the majority of their money from other than wages. See John McCain, Mitt Romney, any of the Bushes, Diane Feinstein, John Kerry. These are multi-multi millionaires who's taxable incomes are much more complicated and complex and require a little more explanation. A return like Sander's doesn't leave a lot of room for questionable/suspect deductions.
Jackie Wilson Said
(4,176 posts)meaningless without them.

(1,865 posts)His return shows, income, it shows deductions, it shows what he paid in taxes.
Jackie Wilson Said
(4,176 posts)of the story out.
I doubt anything of interest is in there, mind you, but that is where the meat of the return is once you know the income and where it comes from.
aquamarina
(1,865 posts)It comes from his job as a senator, pensions and Social Security. And $59k may seem like an awful lot in deductions but in reality it isn't. You factor in mortgage interest, real estate taxes, deductions from medical, charity, that probably about sums it up. But I get that it would be neat to know who or if he is giving any money to charity. Perhaps the medical deductions are for his wife and perhaps she doesn't want that info out in the public since they filed joint/married. Just saying.

geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)he still didn't release the Schedule A, which is the most important part--the part that explains why he's taking such large deductions.
He's hiding something, still.

56K of deductions for what? Mortgage, charity, property tax, and or other things
In addition, a schedule C was done so what was the income, expenses, etc

This is not complete, It's missing the Schedule A, which itemizes the large deduction from personal income on the 1040.

$46,000 in SS Income, WOW! I could live on that. I don't even get HALF that much. .. And I am 72 and just retired last year... sort of....

(92,396 posts)that the complete return would shortly follow.
The OP gives the impression that this is the complete return and it isn't.
In respect for your case, if you started collecting SS at 62.5 you will collect less than if you wait until full retirement at 66.5, which should be for just yourself, at least 2600/month.
However, if you just retired, and then started collecting SS, you should be collecting about 3000/month if you started collecting at 70
The 46000 also includes his wife's social security. Either she is collecting her own, or 50% of his SS earnings I suspect

He did not release a full tax return.
Only the 1040 summary, not the Schedule A showing his proportionally large figure for itemized deductions.

SDJay
(1,089 posts)at least not because HRC releases them. She's taken too much heat and moved the goal posts too many times and too idiotically for there not to be some type of horrible, campaign-shredding quote or 2 or 7 in them. SBS could release every tax return he's ever filed, his birth certificate, his daily diary from 1947-56, the name, address and phone number of every woman he's ever dated... Guess what? They'd just come up with something else he hasn't released and once again refuse to release the transcripts.
The problem is, I'm worried that some repuke already has them and we'll all see them in October. I don't know if they do or not, but you gotta think that some scumbag on that side of the aisle has some sort of lead into what she said.
That's what I don't get - if she had put them out there when this first arose she probably would've taken some heat - probably about what she's taking now in terms of intensity - and then this would've blown over. Now? She's setting herself up to be completely blindsided.
