Obama expanded his lead to 4 percentage points in Florida, the new results show. The previous poll had him at 47 percent to Romney's 44 percent. The first survey was conducted on Sunday, Oct. 14, through Tuesday, Oct. 16.

A statewide survey of 600 likely voters in Florida was conducted by Grove Insight October 17-18 using professional interviewers. Quotas were set to ensure calling into cell phone only households. The marginof error is plus or minus 4.0 percentage points at the 95% level of confidence. The data reported hereclosely mirrors key demographics, including party registration, race, ethnicity and gender. The sample is40% registered Republicans, 40% Democrats and 20% unaffiliated with either party

Obama holds a 47-44 percent margin in the state, according to a survey commissioned by Project New America, a Denver-based group with Democratic ties that develops, conducts and disseminates research and messaging.

The survey found that Obama leading among women by a 49-43 percent margin, tied among men, and leading among African-Americans by a 92-7 percent margin.

Obama also was viewed as someone more likely to understand the struggle of the middle class by a 46-30 percent margin

The poll of 500 likely voters was conducted for the group by Grove Insight on Oct. 17-18 and had a margin of error of 4.4 percent.

4. The state is definitely still in play

I think at this point, the campaign is focusing on a strong firewall - and that seems to be the midwest states (OH, WI + NV). IA and NH are encouraging. The impression I get is they are still going after VA/CO, FL, and NC but maybe with a slightly lower emphasis than the states mentioned in the former category.

Regardless, I think at this point the team seems to be very good at their job. We'll see how this pans out in less than two weeks!

back to where it was before September. O leading in almost all battleground states, and Romney not having much of a path to 70.
