If you needed more reason not freak out when some corporate media outlet recites the latest talking point about Romney having momentum or "Romentum." Perhaps the reason why he has Romentum is because his campaign is simply insisting that this is the case. At the end of the day, you need to ignore the right wing media noise and work to win the election.

I saw a curious headline from NPR this morning: "Romney Rides Momentum To Nevada, Colorado." Reuters had a similar headline this morning, touting Romney's "momentum," and Slate did the same thing yesterday.

I have no idea what they're talking about.

To be sure, the Republican saw significant, possibly even election-changing, gains after his first debate with President Obama three weeks ago, erasing the advantage the incumbent built up in September.

But what's happened since? By every measure, Obama won the second debate last week, then won again in the third debate. The polls that showed the president's lead evaporating have leveled off. Early voting totals have looked quite favorable for Democrats. In Nate Silver's model, Obama's odds of winning have gone from 61.1% two weeks ago to 68.1% yesterday.So why simply ascribe Romney with "momentum"? Based on what, exactly? Does the Republican have momentum because he's telling the media he has momentum?

3. MSNBC Does Sometimes Let Fox News Dictate The Narrative...

...By simply responding to the stories they invent, rather than focusing on progressive issues. I think MSNBC needs to do more of the stories where they ignore the right wing narrative and focus on issues like Bainport, which are ignored by most other media outlets, rather than accepting the narrative of the moment that has been invented by Karl Rove and company.

Let me put it this way, did Fox News suddenly start covering Bainport because Big Ed did a segment focusing on it? No. So, why should MSNBC do the same whenever Fox News decides to create a story line attacking Democrats?

It's called an education in the electoral process. The enemy is the electoral college system, not Rachel Maddow. The possibility of a tie is less than .05% but knowing how that system works is something everyone needs to know.

5. Exactly, The Media Pushes The Horse Race Over The Issues...

...In an effort that only helps Romney who has no consistent, coherent substance. Yet, at this point, rather than talk about Romney's impossible tax plan, his all over the map foreign policy, or his endorsement of candidates who are outspoken in the opposition to reproductive rights, the media focuses on microscopic movements in the polls, and make entirely subjective claims about "momentum" following Romney's worst debate. Heck, of the four debates, the last one was the worst for Romney. But, instead of discussing the substance, or lack thereof, of Romney, the corporate media pushes BS narratives and gives Romney a free pass on the blatant contradictions in his statements and policies.
