2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI get that you are proud of your $27 contributions to Bernie
The general election will be fought against billionaires and $27 won't cut it.
Hillary is raising money for the general election fight and for Dems on the federal and state level.
Change takes more than a revolution, it costs big bucks.
To rid ourselves of Citizens United you first have to get in power which means playing by today's rules.

(4,753 posts)just because Sanders surpasses Clinton in contributions, you feel the need to hypothesize from your own dark denial. Too bad, but try again.

(1,681 posts)Bernie has only hit the limit with 3%. He can be just as competitive as anyone in the general.

(1,681 posts)Your candidate is weak on all fronts. She's down in national polls against Sanders, is less competitive against republicans, has terrible likability ratings, is scandal ridden, and can't raise as much money. Your horse is lame.

or some one who's a hundred and 3 years old, a weak candidate is still a weak candidate. I'm sorry about that, I wish it wasn't true but it is. But don't worry, there's a good chance that she won't lose and will therefore be able to maintain the status quo. Yeah.

(4,176 posts)a person can run without super pacs, wall street, etc., and raise a shit load of money.
This is important information for the future.
upaloopa
(11,417 posts)But we need to pass new laws and we are not in a position to do that. We need the PACs to get to a place where we won't need them in the future.
Bernie could never afford a general election campaign on $27 contributions

(3,660 posts)much as anything you say is yours. Doesn't change the fact that yours are saying she's justified in being corrupt because she needs to win and is unable to by being honest.

(6,199 posts)we can't win unless we vote for the super-rich candidate who brings in the millions from super-rich donors and super-rich corporations, who will then totally regulate and tax super-rich people and super-rich corporations because something or other Bernie is bad.
How exactly does that work?

(94,727 posts)Sanders will need 10X his current fundraising for the GE. Are you good for your share?
Sanders will need, at a minimum, a Democratic Senate. There are 10 competetive races. How many are you in for?
Sanders will need a strong 50-State Strategy for voter registration, and GOTV for both him and the down-ballot races. How many States are you chipping in for?
Meteor Man
(385 posts)You mean the one the DNC threw under the bus? Howard Dean's 50 state strategy that was unacceptable because it required including primary support for progressive dems?
Is the Democratic Party gonna fold up the Big Tent and go home if Bernie wins the nomination?

(1,446 posts)She knows that to go up against the right-wing money she truly needs a 'war chest'. Just because you don't like the rules, doesn't mean you can ignore them. She needs to win in order to have any hope of appointing a Supreme Court justice who will be on the side of overturning Citizens United (and SpeechNow). I'm glad she is a smart politician who knows how to win.
