Day After Debate, Clinton Stumps in NYC as Sanders Heads to Vatican

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are not getting much of a break after taking part in a fiery debate seen on NY1 Thursday night.

Clinton is in Manhattan today, while Sanders is on his way to the Vatican for a conference on social, economic and environmental issues.

http://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2016/04/15/democratic-debate-day-after.html

Clinton is touring the Harlem housing projects with Meliisa Mark-Viverito, the Speaker of the NYC City Council and Council Rep for District 8 (East Harlem/El Barrio and the South Bronx).

Seems like a good place to talk about economic justice.

Obama lost to Clinton here by 17 points in 2008, despite winning 2/3 of the African-American vote and almost winning Brooklyn. I start with that as the baseline and then knock 1-2 points off Sanders due to those numbers for African-American voters getting switched--hypothesis being that there won't be a lot o Clinton 2008 voters will be Sanders 2016 voters.

Polling is roughly in line with that--it's very similar to the polling for Ohio.

What policies does Secretary Clinton support (but Senator Sanders has not -- remember, you're claiming she has done something to deserve their vote), that help elderly Latinos in housing projects?

Is it the welfare reform bill?
Is it the crime bill?
Is it the death penalty?
Is it the Honduran coup that has resulted in what is, in practical terms, a virtual genocide of indigenous peoples?
Is it her "just so long as they don't offend white folks' values" racial justice proposals she is offering people like me?

Or do you just figure they should be grateful that she played a game of dominoes?

I mean, we can see what she and the Clinton Foundation have done for the folks with $$$$$ and it isn't just playing dominoes, so what is it?

Giving a free pass to slum lords on the cost of removing lead from public housing (S3609)

"This Act and the amendments made by this Act shall not create any obligation or requirement on the part of any owner of housing, public housing agency, or other party (other than the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development) to comply with any new obligations established by or pursuant to this Act or such amendments, except to the extent that the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development makes amounts available to such owner, agency, or party for the costs of such compliance."

Other than that, out of the 417 bills she sponsored, I don't see one single bill directed primarily to the occupiers of housing projects OR Latinos.

He was elected Mayor of Burlington four times, elected to the House of Representatives eight times, and the U.S. Senate twice. That's fourteen elections, and he won all of them. The spin crowd had gotten more nuanced in the attacks, singled out if he was invited, who was higher up on the invitation, if he was speaking to the pope, but now it is back to day one of Popegate. You may want to get your talking points incline with the spin room. You are several days behind in Popegate. They had to change their tune because it wasn't working and the Hillary fund raiser. The problem with your carte blanche attack of the church is that it is starting to reform...and by you attacking the whole institution to get at Bernie you are ricking alienating supporters of the church. You could go with the last trend of equating the Bernie rally with Nazis, then you could tie that in to the church if you wanted to be more creative.

Meanwhile, she could probably buy the project if she gives 12 hours of speeches to the well connected. Hillary is so far removed from average people and their average lives it's almost painful to watch the charade.

"Bernie at the Vatican" vs. "Hillary with Seniors in East Harlem" plays a lot better than "Bernie at the Vatican" vs. "Hillary Goes on Ye-Gods-Yet-Still-Another Money Grubbing Trip" -- which is pretty much how it would be portrayed if she didn't make a short side-trip to Harlem along the way.

Blunts the edge a little.

He and Jane needed a vacation in Italy paid for by the Bernie money bombs on DU.

Hillary is out there talking with the people, as a presidential candidate should be!
