2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Pope, "knows everything".
The conference organizer, however, does not rule out a meeting between the two even if none is planned now. "The pope is a very surprising man. He likes surprises," said Monsignor Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
Asked in an interview whether Francis had been aware of the invitation to Sanders ahead of time, Sánchez Sorondo replied playfully: "He is not an absent-minded pope. He knows everything."...

(28,876 posts)It simply does not get issued without the Pope's blessing.
The Vatican response to #vaticangate has been interesting.
1. Sanders is accused of soliciting an invitation --> immediately smacked down and an invitation produced
2. It is claimed that Sanders won't be speaking --> the Vatican releases an updated agenda
Every time the Clinton smear campaign tried to get the Vatican to push Sanders away, they pull him closer.
This doesn't happen without the Pope's approval.

(24,411 posts)that was issued about the conference, was issued by the Vatican. There was a .va address on that press release that was disseminated worldwide. Also, in the first paragraph of that press release, some of the attendees names were listed. Not only was Bernie's name one of the few that was spotlighted in this official Vatican press release--Bernie's name was mentioned first.
It has been clear to me all along that the this was a legitimate invitation that was happily made.
The awful woman who came out publicly, after Bernie announced his trip, has been outed as a liar and publicly admonished.
Hillary supporters have been like rabid, junkyard dogs--working day and night to disparage and mock Bernie and lie--in an attempt to blunt any positive PR that Bernie would have gained. It has been pathetic. They have been reduced to bullies who go around popping balloons, just to be mean. The crap article that came from the Daily News Bin was the worst bit of writing--lies on top of lies--that I've ever seen. I've never seen anything like the hate and vitriol unleashed on Sanders supporters for being excited about Bernie's trip to Vatican City.
So...I look forward to see what this trip brings.
Literally, every talking point the Clinton camp has brought forth regarding this trip, has been disproved. After this weekend, they'll all be disproved, I'm sure. And the takeaway is that they wasted so much of our time, disseminating bullshit--because they really didn't have all of the facts and they were just hell bent on stealing a bit of thunder from the Bernie Sander's supporters who were genuinely excited about this trip.
I find that...incredibly unfortunate and sad.

So if he does meet with Sanders, it will be to piss off everyone here who sneered.
