Could Mourdock's "God blesses rape" statement be his "Macaca moment"?

In 2006 Republican George Allen was in a tight Senate race in Virginia when his use of the word racial slur "Macaca" apparently helped cost him the election. Is the Indiana race close enough that this could happen to Mourdock?

Don't think so. It's Indiana, not Virginia. SleeplessinSoCal Oct 2012 #1
Heh. Virginia has its share of nutty fruitcakes who would be ok with the rape statement. yellowcanine Oct 2012 #3

I think Donnelly would have won anyway, but it would have been much closer. Mourdock is just not a very good candidate and the polls have had it in a dead heat with about 15% undecided.

To me the high undecided % represents the hesitancy of Lugar Republicans and independents to commit to Mourdock. With this controversy, those voters have their free pass to vote for Donnelly, who is pretty conservative anyway.

Kaine has also run a good campaign so he gets credit. But I believe the macaca moment did permanent damage to Allen's likability in Virginia. Not to mention finished him as far as any national office is concerned, thank GAWD.

because, if the Dems do it correctly, can be used as cement shoes for very single GOP politician at all levels because of the GOP platform, which the now famous comment mirrors.

How does one make a statement like this? How sick is that. Let's see him get raped then see how blessed he feels after that!

this county just has to start making Republicans pay for the insane crape they spew on the outside chance it makes them consider that perhaps they might want to think about things a little differently.
