Jane doubles down on Bernie's Four Pinocchio claim

Fact Checker
Recidivism Watch: Jane Sanders repeats Bernie Sanders’s Four Pinocchio claim that they released full tax returns

Jane Sanders, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, is the keeper of tax records in the household, according to the candidate. Yet she repeated a claim similar to her husband’s recent Four Pinocchio statement that the couple released their full tax returns over several years. (This claim earned the “fact-checkers’ trifecta,” when the three major fact-checking organizations — Washington Post Fact Checker, PolitiFact and FactCheck.org — debunk the same claim.)

We reached out to the Sanders campaign to find out whether any new tax records have been released in the past week, but did not receive a response. The Sanders campaign had told The Washington Post on April 4, 2016, that it has not released other tax returns prior to the 2014 tax summary it released in 2015. We have not found any indication that the campaign has released any new tax returns since then, or that the Sanderses released full tax returns “every election.”

It’s also unclear exactly which election she is referring to when she says, “We did when he ran for election.” (The campaign did not respond to our inquiry.) . . .

There is one entry from 2014 available for Sanders on the website of the Tax History Project: a Form 1040 (a summary of his federal income tax return) and a one-page Vermont state income tax return. But this is a summary of his tax filing that gives a snapshot of the couple’s finances, not what is considered a full tax return. Perhaps she is referring to the information filed in his financial disclosures, as required of members of Congress. But as the family’s keeper of tax records, she should know that’s not the same thing as a full tax return.

while you are inventing shit to distract from his refusal to abide by the most common standards of transparency.

Frankly, it's pathetic and reveals how little you care about transparency or the notion that all people are equal and should be held to the same standards. You're obviously all too comfortable abandoning any pretense of principle in order to promote one man's campaign.

since he hasn't released anymore than a single year of taxes. Clearly their income is higher than that since Jane has had massive windfalls of hundreds of thousands in particular years. Exactly how much is something the returns reveal.

Opposition to equality absolute gets me worked up. That some are willing to engage in willful fabrication to enforce that societal hierarchy tells me everything about who they are.

We know about the uranium deal with Russia while hc was sos giving Russia a huge amount of uranium in Wyoming. All done while hc was Secretary of State and of while receive a huge donation to the Clinton Foundation. Not millions of dollars in illegal campaign contributions, false claims about not having super pacs, point blank four Pinocchio lies about having released tax full tax returns or denying votes for the minutemen and immunity for gun manufacturers (until he decided talking about it would win the votes of rural conservative Dems and independents)--actual ISSUES facing the American people and some of which Sanders has made central to his campaign.

But, perhaps, you are still being claimed on your parents return and don't know the first thing about these rites of passage. Some day you will grow up and learn first hand.

You aren't suspicious at ALL, because the baseline numbers have all been released and the numbers aren't big enough for anyone (with any common sense at all) to be "VERY SUSPICIOUS" of anything or even believe that something is "being hidden".

Let's look at his 2014 1040

Senate Salary: $156,441

Taxable Interest: $11

Ordinary Dividends: $2

Social Security: $39,281

Pension (Mayor): $4,982

Jane-Gov't Waste Comm: $4,900

Total Adjusted Gross Income: $205,617

Total Itemized Deductions: $56,377

Total Federal Taxes in 2014: $27,653

My GOD $11 in interest? $2.00 in DIVIDENDS? AGI OF 205K? What must he be hiding?

Here's the sad reality... if you do your own taxes, as they appear to do... "releasing" them isn't as easy as calling your accountant and saying "send me a copy".
