2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAre Hillary's supporters here prepared for a Republican White House,
should their favored candidate win the nomination? I certainly hope so, but if not, know that you can always come to DU to complain about Bernie Sanders not supporting her earlier on, BECAUSE SEXISM, "there is a vast right-wing conspiracy", etc.

She barely garners a majority of support in the Democratic party, if she even truly has that which I doubt, and her potential for drawing support from outside the Democratic party in the GE is simply a pipe dream...there IS no potential there. Her national favorability rating is completely upside down, and she has no enthusiasm surrounding her campaign.

(4,451 posts)are not valid yet. Sanders would lose to Trump. Trump currently has more votes AND many Hillary supporters won't vote should Sanders be the Nominee. I myself am waiting to see if I will vote for Sanders OR see who the republicans will run.. My choice is not Sanders vs a republican. My choice is the most honest and Sanders has been against democrats
lagomorph777
(30,613 posts)But out here in the Reality Based Community, the pattern is clear, consistent, and strong: Bernie can massively wallop Trump, and easily beat either of the other two GOP candidates. Hillary could squeak out a win over Trump, and would lose to either of the others. I don't like those odds.

(3,226 posts)While I know that people will vote for her I feel more will show up and vote for Bernie which will give us a better chance of winning back the Senate. Also much less will be voting against Bernie, on the other hand I think we will see tons of Hillary haters showing to vote to defeat her if she ends up as our candidate.
I know that few on this site who have backed one or the other person will change their mind at this point, I would hope that we could start presenting the positive aspects of what our party can do to win the down ticket races this fall.
Agnosticsherbet

(3,226 posts)I found it funny that as I scanned down the list of posts at 1st I missed the comma so I read it as "No people will voter for ....." Ether Hillary or Bernie will win the nomination, Bernie's chances are slim but I never thought he would take off like he has, so I have not given up on him.
My question is what positive thing can be done to help win back the Senate and get more seats in the House.
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)Some might consider this heresy, but as long as a Senator is a Democrat we should work to get that Senator elected. The Senate is controlled by the majority party. If Democrats control the majority, they will support a Democratic President's agenda and fight the legislative Agenda set by the house of Representatives.
The Presidential Candidates and their campaigns can raise money for Senatorial Candidates, and once we have a nominee, set a national agenda.
Finally, we should go to work with our local Democratic Party to Get Out the Vote.
For years, I have reached out to older Democrats and other to get them to the polls. This year, I have become acquainted with a number of citizens who did not intend to vote. I am having an election party for people who can show they voted.

(1,089 posts)and it's one of the many reasons I'd happily vote for HRC in the GE even though I do support SBS.
That said, what kind of picks do you think President HRC would make? I would expect more centrists like what we saw from President Obama. As you said, way, WAY better than the alternative but I guess I'm saying I don't think the USSC would take a big turn to the left under HRC. Instead, it would avoid falling further into the shit-pit that is the right.

(1,089 posts)and that's obviously a big deal. I'm just wondering about the overall ideological landscape of the SC under HRC.
I guess that's getting ahead of things. If Drumpf won, we'd be looking at Omarosa, Sarah Palin and Kid Rock as the new SC judges, and that's probably not that far off. He'd probably have a reality show to determine who gets nominated.

(1,446 posts)Since he would be torn apart by the right-wing machine if he should get the nomination. They've taken their best shots at Hillary for over 20 years, and she's shown that she can remain viable. I can't even imagine what they would do with a socialist, old, agnostic, tax and spend, pro-pot, far-left candidate. It would be horrible to watch that unfold.
These are all traits, by the way, that I find acceptable in a candidate, but have made the deliberate decision that the general electorate will not view him as kindly.

(53,035 posts)If you want to support Trump or Cruz, just support them. Knock off the threats. How is it that you all are willing to do anything except work on turning out the vote for your candidate?
Bernie can't win the GE because he can't win the nomination. It's really not that complicated. And yes, a number of men will vote for the GOP because they don't want a woman president. Just as a number of women will vote Democrat because they don't want to see being a woman criminalized or have their rights stripped away. But guess what? No one, absent those really hoping for a Trump presidency or furious because the electorate didn't vote for Bernie, thinks the GOP will beat Clinton. The GOP doesn't think they will win. At this point their concern is about how badly they will be hurt down ballot.
What is it exactly that pisses you off so much? That women dare to question sexism and patriarchy rather than staying in their place? That anyone dares support Hillary rather than Bernie? The fact is Bernie is losing. He's not going to win, and Hillary will be the nominee. You are simply going to have to deal with that fact.
