2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI have a confession to make.
I'm a Bernie supporter and until now I haven't given a single thought about how he will get to Vatican City or even (forgive me, fellow Sanders supporters) how he will get back I know, I know, I can't believe that I've been eating and sleeping and working and not spending countless hours worrying about how he's going to negotiate the details of the trip - I mean, it's not like he's really traveled much before or that he has a staff to help.
Thankfully I've seen multiple threads here started by people who are more attuned than I, who are working out a flight schedule and how he will pay for it...and the coolest thing is that they aren't even Bernie supporters...I love the help he's been getting here
Just wanted to send out a thanks to everyone who's addressed this issue and is so concerned about his welfare

(28,876 posts)...closely?
When exactly is the Pope going to Greece? For how long, and which flight route? Got to stay up to the minute on that one.
And is Bernie speaking, or is he not? For how many minutes? Before or after a coffee break? Vital information.
Here's a wrinkle that I don't think has been mentioned yet...where is Bernie sleeping? Surely not in the Vatican itself!

(4,373 posts)That's it, I'm slugging down two or three bottles of 8 hour energy - I swear I won't sleep until he gets back, I'll just focus on those problems...anyone have a Hotels.com account?

(28,876 posts)We all know that's the real Sanders.

(8,352 posts)may not be able to meet him but he is gifting him some of Pope Ratz's red Arellano shoes.

Oh they were all the rage!
But now that you mention it...red shoes? Communists are the 'red menace'. We may be on to something here!

(1,235 posts)I'm sure the nice Hillary supporters who planned the International trip so efficiently, will be more than happy to plan the local trip for him as well.
They'll have this all planned very shortly, right down to counting the towels and shampoo bottles of Bernie's hotel room ... (don't tell them I told you this, but I think they have a little OCD problem, but gawd bless their little hearts, they do the best they can, given their disability.)

(4,373 posts)After all, they've taken hours of their own time to help Bernie with this whole travel thing.

Shhhh...it is classified, not just classified.

(14,459 posts)That was such an amazing case of being on top of things last time...and now at the Vatican? The Pope's Peeps will not be amused if they find Kitty's deep cover agents hiding in their gardens...

(8,352 posts)There is nothing that could possibly go wrong with these flight plans, no siree!

(8,352 posts)Getting those secret maps is super duper hard!
They're so helpful! They're even giving us his schedule and keeping tabs on who invited him and how the world will react to this most amazing of events.
Truly, we are blessed to have such people so willing to give of their time and effort for the Democratic Party. And for free even!

(1,168 posts)I mean, he's just trying to be the chief executive of one of the most powerful governments in the history of the world. Do you really think he can handle something so much more difficult like figuring out how to get to the Vatican and back?

(14,177 posts)Gebus this is the single most important thing Bernie will ever do in his life and you haven't given one thought on how he is going to do it??? I can't believe you are a Bernie supporter and believe Bernie has a staff that can handle issues of such great importance that they don't need the help of Hillarians on DU. For shame!!!

(4,373 posts)No more sleeping or eating, I'll take some personal leave days so I can work on this 24/7!

(14,177 posts)Now find out if any of Bernie's staffers are going conflict of interest conflict of interest even if they are only there to be able to keep up with campaign work and don't do anything at all to help him with the Vatican trip itself.

(4,373 posts)Is he taking the bird? Does it need shots? Is one of the staffers going to take care of that? We'd better ask some of the nice people here to research that.

This trip is going to be a disaster!

(4,373 posts)And conditioner...does he even use hair conditioner? If so, can he get it in 2oz. bottles so he can get it past security? And mouthwash...that's it, I'm drinking another bottle of 8 hour energy!

(7,321 posts)supporters? I mean, then where's the money for coloring her hair come from if it's spent on Bernie? Goldman Sachs for goddess sakes? Oh wait. They have a little nest egg stashed over in some Russian bank, and then there's always Delaware. I guess they can spare a couple of bucks, eh?

(1,890 posts)were so concerned the other night that they even said that his campaign had let him down by allowing him to leave the campaign trail to take this trip. They were truly worried that he was going to lose votes. OMG their sincerity was just awesome. I just can't tell you how it made me feel. It kind of gets you right in the old ticker to see how honorable they have been since this invitation was announced. How lucky is Bernie to have such truly amazing people, from the opposition camp no less, spending so much of their time looking out for his interests. It's amazing, just amazing. You know they were so concerned that I think they might be starting to feel the bern. What do you think?
kiva
(4,373 posts)I was almost beginning to think that some Hillary supporters were, well, a little impolite as the campaigns have heated up. Luckily this has restored my faith in humanity, seeing them trying to outdo each other, checking travel websites, looking up rules on how best for Bernie to pay for the trip.
I missed the concern about him missing time to campaign...you're right, it's downright heartwarming to see their concern about their own candidate's opponent (and they just might be feeling the heartburn...I mean, bern).

(12,530 posts)Yes, I did see a lying POS post on the topic over the weekend, claiming it was a question he had dreamed up. The topic of Sanders' travel to Rome had come up about 8 times when this bozo had his epiphany and asked his question. They're dishonorable; they're liars.
