When I was in law school, I had to submit a paper and request an invite in order to present and attend said forum. That is the status quo for such events. So to say what Sanders did was wrong is disingenuous at best...

ETA: Every person that attends a forum has to request an invitation. That is how forums work. It is sad that I have to add this edit. Bernie's camp did nothing wrong.

I've only heard people questioning his saying that the Pope invited him.

if he was really trying to win in NY. At least on my side of the street.

I think it's awesome he wants to go. The subject matter is very much in his wheelhouse.

That forums are events that discuss a specific topic and most that attend have to request an invitation & those that are provided invitations are thoroughly vetted and accepted because of their history.

You indicated that because in your anecdotal experience people had to submit papers Bernie was disingenuous but then admitted Bernie didn't submit a paper.

No explanations necessary after all that.

but not in all fields. I have been invited to present on somatic approaches to dealing with PTSD in severely traumatized patients at various conferences and forums over the years. They read my articles and my book. I did not have to ask to be invited.

So no, that is not how they work.

This has already been factually cleared up that Sanders was invited.

Sometimes people are invited because they are experts. Sometimes they are invited as special quests. There are numerous ways that conferences and forums are fielded. You are making bold statement when you say always because of a request or after submitting a paper.

That is just not accurate.

their lame attempt at throwing shade on an epic invitation from the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences to Bernie Sanders--to participate in this conference.

The press release that announced the conference, was issued by the Vatican. That press release has a .va in the address--which is on all Vatican correspondence. That press release lists the conference attendees, and Bernie's name is listed FIRST as one of the attendees. Those involved with the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences are touting Bernie's involvement and obviously very pleased that he is attending. They invited him, after all.

Instead of being gracious and mature, many Hillary supporters are trying to cloud what an incredible honor this is for Bernie.

It's one of the most infantile displays I've ever witnessed on DU.

Isn't the call for papers at academic conferences usually a year or more ahead of time? He was working on a paper for an obscure Vatican think tank back then?

Frankly, that seems very unlikely.

No, I was just trying to show that invitations to forums are always requested... So any indication that someone lobbied for Sanders to attend the forum is the norm and not somehow that can be used to insult him and his campaign.
