2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWill Hillary Clinton and Democratic Party leadership not help Bernie win the November election?
Of course they will formally go on record in support of Bernie if he's the nominee, but will they mobilize to turn out the vote in the General Election or will they sit on their hands and let the Republican presidential candidate win?
Will they pull a George McGovern on Bernie Sanders?
The unwanted nominee, George McGovern and the Democratic party.

(2,331 posts)I assume the democratic party will do whatever is in there power to drive up democratic votes in an election year just like the people who supported Hillary did in 2008.

(4,451 posts)I think the INDEPENDENT party are the ones who should help him since he hates the DNC and democrats.

(2,054 posts)Bernie and his supporters don't hate all Democratic Party National Committee members and registered democratic voters. That's complete nonsense. Who do you think he works with in Congress? Bernie and most of his millions of supporters just don't support those career politicians who are representing big business and Wall Street interests.
That's why we don't support Hillary Clinton, the former Senator from Wall Street.

(4,451 posts)He endorses people who want to UNSEAT current Dems... In fact he is working hard at getting his own elected. His people are not running against republicans, they are running against seated DEMS. This is destructive. Hillary is holding fundraisers for the DNC, Bernie uses that against her and does not help the DNC. Let the INDEPENDENT party help him.

(1,353 posts)A Clinton supporter...the democrats need to keep the WH.
Highly unlikely that all the Sanders supporters would do the same...not that they would support the GOP, my guess is a good amount will just not vote. So many were non voters in the past and Sanders has energized them so having them as non voters again will still give the Dems a win, as in 2012.

(28,791 posts)Of course, her campaign doesn't speak for all democrats, just the ones who are keeping quiet because she can ruin them if they speak up to support Bernie.

(934 posts)I'm sure that the Democratic party will work hard to get Democrats elected and turn out Democratic voters.
And I think the party would expect the same from the standard bearer.

(740 posts)...the best they can, of course. When Republicans win they pass laws that make it harder for any opposing party to win in the future.
So if the party didn't support the nominee, whoever it was, they would rarely, if ever, win an election again.
