Turns out Hillary broke the law with her subway stunt!

Hillary Clinton breaks election law on New York subway and could face a $25 fine

By Tom Mendelsohn
April 9, 2016 15:57 BST

Hillary Clinton is trouble after it emerged that she broke New York's election rules by campaigning in a subway carriage. The AFP press agency released a video of the Democratic candidate meeting commuters while travelling on the New York City metro.

Unfortunately for the former First Lady, this is illegal under Metropolitan Transportation Authority law. Section 1050.6(c)1 of the subway rules prevents election candidates from campaigning on trains. It's allowed in stations, provided the candidate stays at least 25ft away from vending machines and ticket booths.

Clinton is now liable for a fine of up to $25 (£17.70) or 10 days in prison, although it's not clear whether the MTA will press charges in this case. The New York Post reports that neither the campaign's spokespeople nor the MTA itself would comment on her faux pas.

The former senator for New York State was also slightly embarrassed that she had had to swipe her MetroCard – the pass that allows people to use the subway – five times in order to get through one of the turnstiles.

She probably won't even be fined. It's not like it's going to matter for so small a fine. And you know she's not going to jail...but that is funny.

want to hear from Clinton supporters. Your comments are out of line.

ALL VIEWS are allowed in GD-P. You don't get to lay down ultimatums.

Someone from the Sanders contingent--I suggest you take this disruptive and obstreperous poster under your wing ..... if you want to keep him.

Don't involve the Sanders group into this. I'm sticking to my comment and I have a right to say what I want in the general discussion board. This is not the Hillary forum! As much as you would like it to be.

Official: Bill Clinton shaking hands does not violate election law

Brian McNiff, spokesman for the secretary of the commonwealth of Massachusetts, says shaking hands alone isn't prohibited. Explicit campaigning is what's banned within 150 feet of a polling places.

"Just meeting people doesn't constitute campaigning," McNiff told CNN. "We received no information that anything like that happened."

His office said it reached out to the Clinton campaign Tuesday "just to remind them about the 150 foot rule."

If all Hillary did was meet and shook hands, then this student editor is jumping the gun with his 'broke the law' claims.

When someone introduces you as the next president of the United States you are campaigning. I realize, from your other post, that you want to pretend that she was just taking the subway as she usually does, but she actually doesn't usually take the subway. Is anything going to come of this? No, most likely. Doesn't change the fact that she broke the law, just as her hubby did in Massachusetts.

She's allowed to shake hands and talk to people--everyone does it.

Trying to suggest that political candidates not be "allowed" to take the subway would have been very problematic for the current and former mayors who are familiar sights there.

Plus:

Clinton had been escorted onto the New York Metro by Ruben Diaz Jr, the president of Bronx Borough. He can be seen in the video introducing her to surprised passengers as "the next president of the United States, Hillary Clinton".

Sounds like campaigning to me.
