The rhetoric around BLM sure has changed in the last six months or so

I'll be the first to admit that the rhetoric has changed on both sides, Sanders and Clinton but still the change is remarkable.

Is all of politics nothing more than maneuvering for advantage?

I laugh a lot at the antics that go on here in GD-P, that's why I keep coming back, but it's an often cynical and sometimes even bitter humor I feel.

But still, laughing beats crying.

I was supporting the movement before the presidential campaign and will be supporting it after. It certainly seems like some people's affinity for the movement is shallow and opportunistic. Sorry not sorry but mostly that means Hillary supporters, but not totally. It seems the more natural alliance is for outside protest groups to line up with an outside protest candidate. But of course everyone has their own reasons and Clinton voters have their own reasons as well.

and never actually gave a shit about BLM. It's all incredibly obvious to anyone paying attention now that the same people are either defending Bill Clinton's ridiculous comments or just hoping the whole thing blows over.

For a while they were treated as above reproach, and disagreeing them was apt to get you attacked pretty harshly. That was when they were challenging Bernie. But after they began challenging Clinton, the rules changed.

The BLM movement is not perfect--what movement is?--and so there is nothing wrong with disagreeing and criticizing some of what they do. The movement has been very effective in getting the Democratic candidates and others to be more engaged in addressing their concerns. They deserve a lot of credit for that. Sanders is, I believe, committed to many of BLM's goals and will advance them if he becomes president. Clinton is still too attached to the war on drugs and less committed than Sanders to fighting against racial inequalities in economic and educational opportunity.
