In NC we are suing to permit early voting on a greater number of days
In 2013 the NC legislature passed and Gov McCrory signed a huge voting overhaul bill that radically changed our rules here. In this bill was voter ID, ending of preregistration of 17 year olds, and a severe curtailing of early voting. We are suing over all of it on the grounds that it hurts minority voters and thus is harmful to democracy. Now, I am reading here that early voting is nothing but cheating. The fact is, making people vote only on election day and only during certain hours make it much harder for many working poor to vote. I am blessed to have sick days, personal days, and regular hours. I can go to the polls on election day and if I lived in a caucus state I could spend the several hours that it takes to vote that way. I know many who aren't that lucky. Many people have no idea today if they are working two Saturdays from now. There are a non trivial number who don't know if they are working next Saturday or not. WY does the right thing letting people like them, and the disabled or sick or in the military vote. I can't believe we have posts on an allegedly progressive site advocating for making it harder for people to vote. No candidate is worth that, I don't care who they are.
