And they are organizing in response.
Enter Operation Battle of New York.
It is the name of a new campaign launched by the editorial groups of The Indypendent and The Occupied Wall Street Journal, left-wing citizen journalist publications that have served as important voices for American social movements for more than a decade.
We can expect corporate media to do everything it can to prop up Clinton and ignore or mischaracterize Sanders and the increasingly broad and diverse movement that supports him, Operation Battle of New York writes in the description accompanying its Indiegogo campaign.
But we dont have to leave it there. Independent media can tell another story.
The idea the activists have is to subvert, even supplant, mainstream media outlets in the days before the April 19 primary. They plan on creating, editing and printing 500,000 copies of a special edition, bilingual, broadsheet newspaper with the kind of compelling coverage mainstream media outlets rarely touch. And they are going to flood New York with the publication in the week before the primary.
An editorial team has already been formed, and has been working on the publication for weeks. Production began on April 7, and is only going to accelerate in the coming week.
In the first five days of their Indiegogo campaign, the group has raised approximately $6,000, with more than 100 backers. And they say this is just the beginning.
The publishers of The Battle of New York have a lot of experience in this territory. Their guerilla media campaign is based on the ones they helped lead during the Occupy movement, along with those in the 2003 protests against the Iraq War, the 2004 protests against the Republican National Convention, the 2014 Peoples Climate March and todays Black Lives Matter movement.

Princeton's Martin Gilens, co-author of the Princeton Study said:
"I'd say that contrary to what decades of political science research might lead you to believe, ordinary citizens have virtually no influence over what their government does in the United States. And economic elites and interest groups, especially those representing business, have a substantial degree of influence. Government policy-making over the last few decades reflects the preferences of those groups -- of economic elites and of organized interests."

Our government is run by "economic elites and interest groups, especially those representing business". We all know this although some among us choose to live inside a bubble of denial, hoping against hope that their chosen authoritarian leader will take good care of them. Our founders are spinning in their graves over this cowardice.
I don't expect Sen Sanders to fix this problem but it's a step in the correct direction, unlike if Clinton becomes president. She represents the "economic elites" that have looted the middle and working classes and ignored the poor.

Those wealthy people are routinely used to lecture and demean ordinary Americans. Tim Robbins, for example, insulting voters by saying "winning S Carolina is like winning Guam." The subtext to that should be apparent. Ordinary voters on this site who dare to question his 1 percenter campaign operatives are routinely insulted or have their posts hidden. The clear message is that the rights of the rich come first, as long as those rich people support Sanders.
I was told it was horrible of ME to "demonize the rich," by Sanders supporters on this site because I pointed out the hypocrisy of Susan Sarandon's talking about how a Trump presidency would be better than Clinton because it would prompt "a revolution," when she has at least six multi-million dollar homes. People here are using an avatar of her. Clearly they see that rich person as a hero, a wealth celebrity useful in attacking ordinary voters who dare to exercise their democratic rights independent of their demands.
Clinton has 2.4 million more votes than Sanders. To claim that a minority of voters represents "the people," and installing someone in power against the electoral will of the majority shows that you in fact are not interested in the rights of the people but instead in imposing your own favored political elite in power over their democratic rights.
This protest shows complete contempt for electoral democracy and the rights of the majority to choose their leaders at the ballot box. In protesting Clinton, who leads hugely in the popular vote, it shows a determination that a self-entitled minority should be able to impose their will over the majority of American voters.

(55,981 posts)countries. It favors the Wealthy 1%. They control the Democratic Party and Clinton is deeply beholden to them.
I don't know Ms. Sarandon nor do I really care what she thinks. I look around at the damage done by the Ruling Class over the last 30years and say enough is enough. Sen Sanders won't be able to fix everything but at least he is on the correct side in this class war.
The DNC favors Clinton and is literally paying campaign money to buy the loyalty of the super-delegates.

(53,072 posts)to determine you and not the majority should pick the president. I do not consent to rule by you. Your rights do not trump those of the majority.
You may not pay attention to Sarandon, but Sanders uses her and other wealthy people as campaign surrogates. They are constantly held up as oracles of truth by a many Sanders supporters. You cannot claim they are not central to his campaign.
The DNC doesn't have money to pay super delgates. You have no idea what you are talking about. Sanders campaign has more money that any one else is this electoral cycle. He has greatly outspent Clinton. These are facts that can be verified through FEC filings. He is not a poorly funded underdog. He is a candidate who despise enormous amounts of campaign donations, super pacs and dark money groups running ads to attack Clinton and promote his campaign, is still not able to attract a majority of voters.
Your contempt for the democratic will of your fellow citizens only shows that what you in fact seek is rule by the few like yourself, and that you feel entitled to impose your own preferences over the rights of the majority. That is not democracy. In fact, it is very much like the oligarchy.

And it looks like support is simply manifesting from many unexpected places.
People of good will know what we need and are figuring out what they can do about it.
That's called a revolution.

I think it is appropriately ironic that a Clinton will lose the battle that will usher in an era where we try to wrestle control of government away from bankers. And, hopefully put an end to the era of Clintonism.
