Congressman Charles Rangel spoke to Yahoo News and Finance Anchor Bianna Golodryga ahead of the New York primary as things were getting heated between Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Golodryga also got his take on the Republican race after Sen. Ted Cruz invoked Rangels name in his characterization of what he called New York values.
On Sanders saying that Clinton isnt qualified to be president, Rangel, who supports Clinton, said, Who the hell is Bernie Sanders to say somebody is not qualified to run for president of the United States?
Rangel told Golodryga that in all of his years in Congress, hes never had a conversation with Sen. Sanders. He said, Hes the type of person that is so proud that hes not a Republican and hes not a Democrat that he feels compelled not to converse with you, but to give a lecture to you so that you would know how much he knows about whatever hes talking about. He continued, I dont know any bill that I associate with him......................

(40,656 posts)The former chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Charlie Rangel, has been convicted on most of the corruption charges brought against him:
A House ethics panel has convicted Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) on 11 of 13 counts of violating House ethics rules.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), the chairwoman of the adjudicatory subcommittee and the full House ethics committee, announced the decision late Tuesday morning following an abbreviated public trial of the 20-term lawmaker and nearly six hours of deliberations.
"We have tried to act with fairness, led only by the facts and the law," Lofgren said. "We believe we have accomplished that mission."
Rangel now faces a variety of potential punishments, from reprimand to expulsion from the House. Both Ed Morrissey and Jazz Shaw predict the reprimand, which amounts to telling Rangel that he did a no-no, but on formal stationery. I join them in their justifiably cynical prediction.

But poor Charlie, he doesn't want to clean up the corruption in D.C.

(854 posts)"Those charges pointed to a collection of infractions related to four central elements of the case: that Rangel improperly used his congressional staff and official letterhead to raise seven-figure donations from corporate charities and chief executives for a college
wing named in his honor; violated New York City rules by housing his political committees in his rent-controlled apartments in Harlem; did not pay taxes on a villa he owns in the Dominican Republic; and did not properly disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal financial assets.
This occurred while he served as the ranking Democrat or chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, which has oversight of tax issues. He resigned as committee chairman in the spring when he was found guilty of a more minor infraction related to accepting corporate-financed travel."
