Makes perfect sense to me - the Pope has been an advocate against Income Inequality for a very long time

(14,923 posts)Pope Francis has made clear that we must overcome the globalization of indifference in order to reduce economic inequalities, stop financial corruption and protect the natural environment. That is our challenge in the United States and in the world, Sanders said in a statement.
Sanders announcement came as the pope called for a Church that was less strict and more compassionate towards imperfect Catholics.

(6,007 posts)thread is about Bernie and the Pope? And you did come here and talk off topic. So you are yourself the very thing you are criticizing in others. Weak position indeed.

SEVEN DAYS
Vermont's Independent Voice
By Peter Freyne
October 16, 1996
EL CHEAPO!
Sanders is making more money than at any time in his life but gives next to nothing to charity organizations. This leads Peter Freyne to reminisce about Bernie's early mayoral charity-trashing speech to the United Way.
He's the only independent in Congress, the self-proclaimed champion of "poor people, working people and the elderly," and he wears his politics on his sleeve.
...
But some things never change: Bernie Sanders is still a cheapskate.
...
Revolutionary zeal was all the rage, and no one who was there will ever forget that memorable day at the Ramada Inn in 1981 when Mayor Sanders was invited to address the kickoff of the United Way campaign.
Ol' Bernardo couldn't conceal the contempt he held for all those well-dressed do-gooders. His infamous, in-your-face "I Don't Believe In Charity" speech knocked 'em on their tushes.

(2,064 posts)If we don't nominate Bernie, We are looking at 4-8 years of Trump. Bernie will crush Trump. Hillary will need to run a perfect campaign and pray that the FBI doesn't recommend an indictment. She could win, but why risk it? And even if she were to win, the big changes Bernie wants to initiate will never see the light of day, as we endure 4-8 years of scandal and triangulation.

And, broke the story that he has an invitation to go and chat with the Pope.
Well done, Senator Sanders!
Anybody who didn't see it, try to catch the video when it comes up.
Edit to add: at the end they were remarking on something to the effect of him being tough on HRC, and he said how many times have I brought up the emails? or the Clinton Foundation? I LOL'd. That was too good!

Hillary's campaign will probably have a new smear prepared to hit him with when he's at the Vatican and won't be able to respond immediately.

It seems like they're all trying so hard not to like him and his ideas, but it's getting tougher to come up with acceptable reasons to oppose him.

(50,310 posts)The one thing you notice about Bernie is how totally real and unscripted he is. He definitely passes the old "have a beer with" test. What a surprise honor for him to get an invitation to speak at the Vatican.
