Steve Leser joins the ranks of John Lewis and Dolores Huerta.

I didn't realize it was possible to motivate this much hatred from Bernie fans without being a civil rights legend.

Hey, Steve, are you, like, related to Nelson Mandela or Ghandi or something?

You're obviously doing something right, keep it up!

was too embarrassed by the reminder that a certain DU user who has expressed blatant antisemitic sentiments (and even retracted her apology here for having done so) still hasn't been banned from DU.

Apparently a small but vocal contingent of her supporters hereabouts was similarly (and correctly) embarrassed, and, rather than addressing the problem, resorted to shooting (at) the messenger by whining about the reminder.

It says a lot.

on their hides around here is really silly considering how they're handed out.

The jury system has become a handy dandy tool for shutting people down, and you know it. Skinner
knows it too and that's why he did away with the time-out nonsense. Remember, he can see who is doing this.

People who consistently make note of how many HIDES one has accumulated tells me that they're more interested in game playing and gossip than anything else.

Calling attention to people's hides is a perfectly good way of noting their habit of posting hide-worthy--often disgusting and hateful--crap.

Your comment about the admins being able to see who is doing what isn't news to anyone, btw. Anyone who wasn't already aware of that fact should probably steer clear of web-based discussion forums entirely.

Hyperbole.

I can easily produce a link to something more disgusting than anything ever allowed to stand here. Just ask. It was written by a DU member with a certain following who will most likely be given yet another pass by the admins. Time will tell. I honestly hope to be shown wrong, but if history is any guide, I won't be.

Ever been on usenet, btw? Not that I'm suggesting our little sandbox here should operate in the same wild-west fashion, but given the excerpted text above, I can guess the answer.

28. And speaking of offensive comparisons
Fri Apr 8, 2016, 04:01 PM
Apr 2016

During an interview on the National Public Radio show Fresh Air, Grover Norquist compared the estate tax to the Holocaust claiming that it is just as immoral as genocide, because both target only a minority of the population.

TERRY GROSS: So you see taxes as being the way they are now terrible discrimination against the wealthy comparable to the kind of discrimination of, say, the Holocaust?

NORQUIST: Well, what you pick -- you can use different rhetoric or different points for different purposes, and I would argue that those who say, 'Don't let this bother you; I'm only doing it' -- I, the government. The government is only doing it to a small percentage of the population. That is very wrong. And it's immoral. They should treat everybody the same. They shouldn't be shooting anyone, and they shouldn't be taking half of anybody's income or wealth when they die.

And here's another classic example that immediately springs to mind:
