(1,571 posts)I think he's lost his edge. He used to be so good at the artifice. Is that the soft racism of the southern liberal male bleeding through? You know, the kind that reminisces about the days when the future leader of the free world might have been your porter? Reminds me of the less occult misogyny that somehow thinks getting serviced in the oval office by an intern is a good idea. When you put his peccadillos together they paint a very creepy portrait.

(5,636 posts)In the full quote, Clinton is merely talking about his wife's work in Africa. The OPs distortion of the quote comes directly from the conservative website Breitbart, but even they have the decency to provide the full context.

Ill tell you another story about a place where Black Lives Matter: Africa, Clinton said.
The other day, I started my day with a picture that was sent to me on my iPad of a little guy running a storehe wasnt very tallin Tanzania in Dar es Salaam. You know what his store said? All it was was little crafts. It said The Hillary Clinton store. Now why did he say that? Because the first thing that she did as Secretary of State was triple the number of people in Africa whose lives we were saving from AIDS by going to all low-cost price drugs, the same thing she wants to do for the American people if we give her a chance.

(3,897 posts)"Africa is a place where black lives matter."
... is completely congruous to....
"a place where Black Lives Matter: Africa"
You should check out Twitter and understand what the problem is with Bill's statement.

(22,974 posts)or they are distortions and lies.
FYI - I'm a Sanders supporter, but my loyalty is to the TRUTH.
chascarrillo
(3,897 posts)It's a paraphrase that means exactly what the exact quote states. Again: "Africa is a place where black lives matter" means the exact same thing as "a place where black lives matter: Africa". Absolutely nothing was distorted.
tabasco
(22,974 posts)But thanks for playing.

(3,897 posts)It's like saying:
"2 + 2 = 4"
when someone says
"4 = 2 + 2".
Or:
"An apple is a piece of fruit."
"A piece of fruit: an apple."
"A hammer is a tool."
"A tool: a hammer."
"English is a difficult language."
"A difficult language: English."

Africa is a place where black lives matter!

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
This is a complete distortion of the context and the quote and the distortion is lifted directly from a right wing website (which also at least has the courtesy of providing the full quote)
http://www.breitbart.com/2016-presidential-race/2016/04/07/bill-clinton-philadelphia-africa-place-black-lives-matter/
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Apr 7, 2016, 05:07 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Posting a grossly distorted OP is completely inappropriate and using a rabid right wing source to do it is way over the top and deliberately disruptive. This post meets all the criteria for hiding it.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Another right wing source from another Sanders supporters.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The actual quote may be found in a number of places which is...âIâll tell you another story about a place where black lives matter: Africa.â The OP is not a distortion and if you think context needs to be added, then you mistakenly pushed the alert button instead of the reply button.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Not an exact quote. Therefore a distortion (lie).
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't even know what this is supposed to mean. I don't see a TOS violation.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

(5,636 posts)The OP did not even use an actual quote by Clinton. He used a headline from the right-wing Breitbart website, which intentionally modified what Clinton said and lifted it out of context to create a full distortion.
I think I'll go to American Thinker and post one of their articles about Bernie and see if the mods leave that up.
chascarrillo
(3,897 posts)And the context is a problem. He was trying to divert from his and Hillary's push for mass incarceration of African-Americans and welfare reform by saying "hey, but we did great things for black folks in Africa!"* That is messed up to no end.
Major Nikon
(36,827 posts)Africa is a place where black lives matter! is a distortion of...
"I'll tell you another story about a place where black lives matter: Africa"
But 1 million black lives warehoused by Clinton as a result of his mandatory sentencing law is worth ignoring.

(49,387 posts)Howzabout putting that quote in context?

(5,815 posts)He still thinks it's 1994.
If he'd at least called white criminals methy, it could've slid. But, newp.
