I got this e-mail from Daily Kos suggesting that I vote for Santorum in tomorrow's Michigan primary.

What say you, fellow DUers?

muntrv, I'm about to ask you to do something that might sound strange, but hear me out: in order to help President Obama and all Democratic candidates this November, please vote for Rick Santorum in the Michigan primary on Tuesday, February 28.

If Rick Santorum wins the Michigan primary, or at least keeps it close, the Republican presidential nomination campaign will drag out for months. That would be very good news for President Obama, Democratic candidates and most importantly, our country. Here's why:

Less money to attack Democrats: The longer the GOP primary and caucus season continues, the less money Republicans will have to attack President Obama. For example, in January, Mitt Romney spent $32.7 million attacking Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. If Romney is able to wrap up the nomination quickly, he can start using that money to attack President Obama.

Dropping in the polls: As the Republican candidates try and appeal to the tea party and religious fundamentalists, they are turning off the rest of the country. For example, on the day or the Iowa caucus, Mitt Romney trailed President Obama by an average of only 2% in general election polls. However, now he trails by 5%. The more time Republicans have to spend winning over their crazy base, the worse all Republicans will look to the rest of America.

You are invited: Michigan is a special case where every registered voter is allowed to vote in the Republican primary. You do not have to be a Republican in order to vote.

This is why we, the Obama's campaign, his Super PAC, MoveOn.org, and the Michigan Democratic Party are all trying to damage Mitt Romney ahead of the primary tomorrow. Your vote for Rick Santorum can help close the deal.

So please, head to your usual polling place on Tuesday, February 28, and vote for Rick Santorum. It might be painful, but you will be doing both President Obama, the Democratic Party and the entire country a big favor.

Keep fighting,
Markos Moulitsas

I have this disturbing feeling we may end up regretting this. Romney is about most pathetic and weakest political opponent you could imagine. We might be getting too greedy.

as others have noted, I think at this point states have already had deadlines to set for candidates to even be on the ballot.

There are some backdoors to have a new candidate within a party placed on the ballot if another candidate drops out, but, and I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that there are probably entire states that a new candidate would not even be able to get on the ballot for now, much less a new face at the end of August.

doing grave damage to their party. 2) Mittens wins and sews up the nomination.
If they keep fighting and have a brokered convention the delegates are only required to vote for their designated candidates the first round.
If the powers that be realize that no one in the Klown Kar Krash that is the GOP primary, can win in November, they probably want to have a "white Knight" (Think Christy, Jeb or Palin) save the party from it's base.
The question is would you rather see them keep up the food fight in the primaries or see them stuck with the Mitt?

As I wrote on another thread concerning this topic:

I don't think you should vote for someone you wouldn't be able to live with if they actually got into the Oval, just because they seem more beatable.

Personally, I think this idea of democrats voting for Santorum is just as crazy as Santorum himself.
What if, goddess forbid, some tragic horror happens to the president and Santorum ends up in the Oval as a result? Could you live with that?

If you are going to vote for one of these reptiles, and I think that's just dumb, then vote for the one who you could live with if he became president.

If a strategic vote for Santorum helps the president draw a more beatable candidate, then I'm all for it.

I don't think it's a good idea either to vote for him. What if it backfires and he actually won the nomination and somehow became President. It's a scary thought... And I just absolutely utterly could not make myself vote for him under any circumstances.

Beware what you wish for! I think Romney is the easy candidate to defeat because he represents the 1%.

If Santorum defeats Romney, he'll run under a "the 99% won" banner.

and there is a big difference between Reagan and Santorum. Like him or not, Reagan could get his points across using humor and an 'aw, shucks' quality he developed from years in Hollywood. Ricky comes across as the church lady. A guy with no humor and no fun who doesn't want anybody else to have any fun either.

As noted, Reagen had a VERY refined "style."

He was an affable guy, sort of like Bush II, and like Bush II was able to speak moderately while winking at the far right.

And, the election/circumstances just broke his way.

community for this idea. I can't believe he's still pushing it. He was initially trying to raise money on it and calling it Operation Hilarity.

If you'll go to the site and do a search for Operation Hiilarity or Anti-Operation Hilarity you'll find literally hundreds of entries.

The danger I see in this is Santorum actually winning the nomination and, god forbid, something happening like in 2000. I'm going to vote in the Rep Primary in my state, but I'm voting for Ron Paul, LOL.

Santorum is already ahead 20 pts in Tennessee.. stupid hicks.. he doesn't need my help to win here.
