Here's an article with words
"I don't know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped on crack and sent them out on the street to murder other African-American children," he said, shaking his finger at a heckler as Clinton supporters cheered, according to video of the event. "Maybe you thought they were good citizens. She didn't."
Hillary Clinton, who also has faced protesters upset by her remarks, has said she regrets using the term.

(9,086 posts)That's what Bill did there. It's a right wing trope. Bill getting back to his roots.
Everybody agrees violent crime is bad. Nobody approves of violent crime.
The question is how should we fight it. Is it by throwing millions of people in jail and throwing away the key. Ramping up the war on drugs? Cutting people off welfare? Calling the children a "new breed" of super-predators? Mass violations of civil rights and liberties and criminalizing black life? Militarizing the police?
Bill Clinton screwed up today.
George II
(67,782 posts)Again, Congress passed the legislation, and Sanders was one of those who voted for it.
Neither Hillary nor Bill Clinton voted for it.
Talk about deflection. So, are you upset with Sanders for voting for it?

(55,981 posts)Here are some important points made by Ms. Williams:
The 1994 Crime Bill that she so vigorously defended not only expanded incarceration, but stripped funding for college education from prisoners. The Clinton legacy allowed for policies that prevented anyone convicted of a felony drug offense from receiving food stamps or income assistance. Clinton-led welfare reform fundamentally ripped apart the social safety net.
Make no mistake, Hillary Clinton's efforts to push these policies resulted in the continued destruction of Black communities and the swift growth of our mass incarceration crisis.
And the Prisons For Profits industry has been very supportive of H. Clinton.
George II

(55,981 posts)Here's the truth: the Clinton legacy has left our prisons bursting at the seams. Real lives have been destroyed as a result. It is an indisputable fact that millions of Black people were locked up for drug crimes and provided the bodies for the expansion of the prison industry.
The 1994 Crime Bill that she so vigorously defended not only expanded incarceration, but stripped funding for college education from prisoners. The Clinton legacy allowed for policies that prevented anyone convicted of a felony drug offense from receiving food stamps or income assistance. It says "make no mistake". I think you should heed that advice. The Clintons have long been tough on crime. BLM sees it as too tough, but the Prisons For Profits sees it as profits, profits they gladly share with The Clintons. It's this corrupt culture that we are fighting against and you seem to be fight to retain.

(2,353 posts)This is what's the matter.
I don't know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got thirteen year old kids hopped up on crack and sent em out onto the street to murder other african american children.
Maybe you thought they were good citizens, she didn't. <more forcefully> she didn't.
You are defending the people who kill the lives you say matter. Tell the truth <smirks>
You are defending the people who caused young people to go out and take guns.
There was a thirteen year old girl in Washington DC planning her own <can't understand this word>.
How would you do it?
Now look at this other one. Look at this. That's not true.
Now let's talk about the other thing. They say that the welfare reform bill increased poverty then why do we have the largest drop in african american poverty in history...

(3,017 posts)I think it is worth noting that this took place after the disastrous 1994 midterm elections, when the Republicans routed the Democrats and took control of both houses of Congress for the first time in 40 years. Hillary brought Dick Morris into the White House to advise Bill and Morris had Bill moving to the right and making poll tested appeals to conservative voters in order to improve his chances of getting reelected in 1996.
http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1995-10-31/news/1995304052_1_crack-cocaine-powder-cocaine-cocaine-crimes
<President Clinton signed into law yesterday a bill to continue punishing crack-cocaine crimes far more severely than powder-cocaine crimes -- a difference that civil rights activists say is racist.
"I am not going to let anyone who peddles drugs get the idea that the cost of doing business is going down," Mr. Clinton said in nullifying a plan by the U.S. Sentencing Commission to make punishments the same for crack cocaine and powdered cocaine.
As a result, those convicted of crack crimes -- mainly blacks -- will receive the same punishments as those who deal in much greater amounts of powder cocaine. The president, defending hTC the difference, said inner-city communities are hit much harder by crack-related violence.>
<Blacks account for more than 80 percent of those convicted of crack crimes; whites account for less than 5 percent. By contrast, whites are involved in 32 percent of powder-cocaine convictions; blacks, 27 percent, according to the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
But blacks tend to receive longer sentences for crack cocaine crimes than whites do for powder-cocaine crimes; federal law for years has provided much heavier sentences for crimes that involve crack cocaine, and Mr. Clinton's signature yesterday maintained that difference.
The punishment difference of 100 to 1 works this way: Crimes involving 1 gram of crack get mandatory sentences equal to crimes involving 100 grams of powder.>
As the last act of his Presidency, Bill pardoned his half brother Roger, who had been convicted for cocaine possession.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/1318811/Clinton-grants-pardon-for-his-drug-offending-brother.html
<Mr Clinton also pardoned his own brother, Roger, who was convicted for cocaine possession in Arkansas and who was among a number of drug offenders that Mr Clinton believed had been punished too harshly.>

You are a super predator if drive by an row of houses and indiscriminately shoot at homes and end up killing a five year old and a grandmother. You are a super predator if you lay wait for an elderly man or woman to leave a corner store and you mug them or shoot them. Does that mean that every black teen in the neighborhood is a super predator? Hell not. But no one ever said that...ever! (50,254 posts)They didn't even point out that the overwhelming majority of the black community were law-abiding and just as committed as anyone else to wiping out drug abuse and drug trafficking.
They were just fine with the cops treating virtually all AA males 17-25 as superpredators until proven dead.
They acquiesced, to say the least, in what amounted to the revocation of presumption of innocence until proven guilty for anyone in that age and race cohort.
They never challenged the racialization of drug and crime policy-and encouraged it whenever they thought it would benefit their own political interests.
They never challenged the police assumption that blackness equaled predatoriness(in fact, there plenty of drug thugs and gang members who were white or Latino).
They were fine with "three strikes"-even though most of those given life sentences under that policy were basically people who sold three joints to three different narcs.
There were no distinctions made, and nothing at all was done to protect the civil liberties of people in those communities.
Bill and Hill were just fine with the Nineties being "Giuliani time" on drug and crime policy.
And this outburst makes it clear that, if HRC does get in, Bill will constantly be pushing her back towards the worst of Nineties backlash appeasement, rather than doing any of the things that would actually make a difference in reducing drug-related crime(like legalizing pot, decriminalizing at least some other drugs, and actually funding drug treatment centers again).

The argument was bad enough, but that smirk on his face is beyond the pale.
I think PA just got a little tougher for Hillary.

I think the punishment for the fuckers that do this should be extremely harsh. Leave the kids alone.

This is what's the matter -- that black people are protesting the first black president?
This is what's the matter -- what???

(19,053 posts)And I am not speaking about the brave young people who are protesting.
From the tiny crowd that the former president was able to assemble for his wife to the"you said what?" nature of Clinton's remarks about the protesters and the crime bill that they wanted him to address. Just damn.
The gig is up, Bill & Hillary. We see you.

Wait, no, doesn't matter. A Clinton said that.
Always nice to watch a white Southern man condescend to the African American community and get into black on black crime.

(32,707 posts)along with all the other democrats, including the CBC. I lived in one of the roughest parts of Brooklyn and people were desperate for solutions on how to address crime. Calling the 911 was almost a waste of time, as those committing the crime would be long gone before any cops arrived.
That being said, the bill had unintended consequences that demand immediate attention and a fix.
Also, the only people linking Hillary's use of the word "superpredators" to blacks are Bernie supporters, and it's EXTREMELY offensive. But, by all means, keep it up. You're ensuring that the superdelegates will pass on Bernie's argument to flip sides.
