2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumToo much.
I have never seen such an incredibly massive, impeccably orchestrated hit job as I am seeing in the works right now. The MSM is involved, the blogosphere is involved, and it trickles down here to places like DU. He is being attacked and hit like a boxer against the ropes. Boom! Boom! Boom! It doesn't matter if he's down. Hit him more. It doesn't matter that the match is won - knock him out!!
Bernie's campaign will not survive this. I know it. We all know it.
But it is probably the most short sighted political tactic I have ever seen.
I cannot and will not ever be able to join or back a candidate that uses this kind of this massive, corporate media-backed misinformation and smear job as I am watching before my very eyes. I want to scream, NO!!! STOP IT!! This is not good!! It's not good for the big picture!! It's not good for the party!!
The machine is now fully exposed and it is waaaay too big. Too powerful. Those of you who back this, beware.
Hit after hit after hit of false representation of his words, his interviews, his ideas.
This is not being a democrat, this is Tammany Hall. On steroids. This is something so ugly, so big, so massive, so pervasive.
Democracy is dead.
What I don't understand is why. Of course we can do math. Hillary has this. So why are they destroying one of the greatest political movements of core democratic values we've seen in decades? Why don't they just let this thing ride to the end and then accept Bernie's crowd into the fold? Why are they slashing and burning us to oblivion? We will not "come around". They are fracturing the party. But, why?
And if anyone thinks, with Time Warner Cable being one of her top donors that Net Neutrality will survive the next 4 years, you are living in a dream world. The one area where the media and the powers that be have not been able to control the message has been the internet. This will be the last internet supported campaign. Good by net neutrality.
I will not support ANY of this. Never. Such a shame. I really liked both candidates, I just preferred one over the other. But when this is over, I'm out. I cannot support this machine.

And he is also responsible for the fallout from that disaster of an interview.
He wanted media attention, he has it now.

(10,786 posts)Because she takes huge $ from the special interests and the top 0.1%?
Because she voted for Cheney's Iraq blunder?
Because she has never seen a disastrous trade deal that she did not love?
Those aren't lies. Those are plain facts.

(14,255 posts)One thing that has happened - I resolve not to vote for her if she is the candidate, and after the Aug. 30 primary here in Florida, when I will vote for Grayson over DINO Murphy, and then I am unaffiliated, unless there is something new to join.

(5,281 posts)emphasize how corrupt all our institutions have become. The corporate media is nothing more than a propaganda juggernaut. If we are ever to escape this sewer we need to back Bernie NOW!

We and Bernie's campaign will continue to grow and reclaim or party and our country.

(9,385 posts)It's what they are all about, 24/7. It's all they do -- this, and corruption.
It's everything that everyone who has any semblance of an ethical or moral standard left, wants to get rid of. Hillary and pals, which include the media, ARE the problem.
Of course they won't accept someone actually solving the problem, which is them.
I wouldn't worry about it. They are just showing everyone who they are. The more people catch on, the more the Clintons and their dirtiest allies will fall. There will come a time when they will be in the rear view mirror. It could be this summer, which wouldn't be any too soon for me.
I'm fed up with their faces, their voices, their posing, their frauds, and their bullshit.
Decades of it is more than anybody should have to put up with. Especially coming after the Bushes doing the same thing. Both clans (which are one) need to get the fuck out of our faces and our way.
Don't kid yourself, of course Bernie's campaign will survive this. She hasn't got anything that can knock him out. He does have the goods on her however, which he can use anytime.

(23,156 posts)He was laughed at when he first announced. His polling then was in single digits.
Since last May, when he first announced he's gone steadily up in the polls. Despite assurances that he wouldn't win a single primary or caucus, he only narrowly lost Iowa (two tenths of one percent, hardly a Hillary landslide) but trounced her in New Hampshire. The Super Tuesday states were always going to be hers, but since then her wins have been fewer and fewer. Bernie has won seven of the last eight races, and apparently he's so strong in NY already that the Clinton campaign is growing increasingly desperate to get him gone. Keep in mind, she was inevitable: she raised huge sums of money early on and got a lot of super delegate endorsements with the specific intention of scaring any potential challenger away. It mostly worked.
Except for Bernie. He wasn't afraid to challenge Hillary Clinton for the nomination.
And here are some things to think about: Even if you believe Hillary Clinton is the best possible candidate in either party and that she would make a totally awesome President, if she were simply coasting to the nomination, she'd be woefully unprepared for the general election, and she'd be getting far less media coverage than she currently is. Without Bernie in the race, it would be All Republicans All the Time in virtually every media outlet. Except maybe for Rachel Maddow.
And even here on DU her candidacy would be a big yawn. Oh, her supporters here would be understandably happy, but out there in the real world? She'd have done nothing to embrace independents. She'd be firmly backing a $12/minimum wage, reducing SS benefits, compromising on abortion, all the while assuring us that she will work well with Congress.
Because her feet have been held to the fire it's becoming harder and harder for her to be able to pivot right, as she will inevitably do if she secures the nomination. And if she is nominated, and does move right during the general election, she will more likely lose the election than win it.
Just my take.
