"I will take Bernie Sanders over Ted Cruz or Donald Trump any time," Hillary tells reporters

Jeff Zeleny @jeffzeleny
"I will take Bernie Sanders over Ted Cruz or Donald Trump any time," @HillaryClinton tells reporters today outside Yankee Stadium.

Democratic presidential frontrunner and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who conspicuously refused to call rival Bernie Sanders “unqualified” in a Wednesday interview, has directly responded directly to Sanders’ attack that she is “not qualified” to be president, and his accusation that she had done the same to him. During a press availability Thursday morning in front of “Yankee Stadium,” Clinton swung back hard at Sanders by expressing her support for him if he were to be the general election candidate:

Look, I didn’t — I don’t know why he’s saying that. But I will take Bernie Sanders over Donald Trump or Ted Cruz any time. So let’s keep our eye on what’s really at stake in this election. We have Republicans whose values are so antithetical to what’s right for New York, or what’s right for America. And I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing, with my friends like (Bronx borough president) Ruben Diaz Jr. for all these years to try to really make a difference in peoples lives.

(It was in Mother Jones, however, at least three years BEFORE the 9-11 attack in an article about GWB's many failed business dealings)

If the GOP are unqualified, then SBS stands somewhere between HRC and unqualified GOP people.

SBS could either be qualified or not.

If some of the GOP are qualified, then that not only validates the GOPers but then says that SBS is qualified.

Unless this is clarified, that entire statement is complete bullshit!

In a couple of my English and Poli-Sci courses, we had to decipher rhetoric--the art of persuasion and doublespeak!

We were graded on this and it now pops out whenever I see it being deployed.

Those who fail to grasp its use are the targets of it.

1. Disqualify, destroy...
2. She's not qualified...

Neither candidate looked good here IMO. They absolutely do need to make sure that even if they're going to spar, they need to continue to highlight the differences between this primary and the repukes. These folks aren't talking about their fingers, their johnsons (when applicable), their spouses and whether they're ugly, naked or whatever, their height, they're not shushing each other on stage...

I can't believe I just typed that all with a straight face, but anyone who sees these two primaries has to immediately realize that on one side you've got feces flingers pandering to morons and on the other you've got a largely substantive campaign. Let's keep it that way, as it will make a difference in the GE.

It's going to be wrenching for him to step down from viscous characterizations he's made about Hillary; negative rhetoric which seems to be intensifying in a period where unity is probably a more important pursuit.
