Presidential populist Bernie Sanders came under blistering fire Tuesday for opposing efforts by families of Sandy Hook shooting victims to sue gun manufacturers.
Sanders, in an exclusive interview with the Daily News last week, said, No, I dont, when asked if victims of a crime with a gun should be able to sue the manufacturer.
His Democratic rival and her Connecticut supporters took aim at the upstart, saying the Vermont senator was out of touch on the issue after the full transcript of his remarks were released Tuesday.
I was against it, and he was for it, to give immunity from liability to gunmakers and sellers, front-runner Hillary Clinton told supporters at a campaign event at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. We can reverse this, and 92% of Americans and 85% of gun owners agree that we should.

The plaintiffs claim they can sue the companies because manufacturers knew the AR-15 rifle used in the Sandy Hook shooting wasnt suitable for civilian use when it was introduced in the market...................

(6,409 posts)The AR-15 is not a military weapon. It is a civilian adaptation of a military weapon. All manufacturers of consumer products are generally protected from lawsuits if their products are not faulty, function as intended, etc. Firearms manufacturers can be sued if their products malfunction and injure or kill someone, by blowing up in the user's face, for example. Gun makers do not have "immunity." Does this make Hilary Clinton a liar? Her campaign is very quick to call Sanders a liar for various responses to attacks.

(24,411 posts)Hillary tried to get these talking points about Bernie and guns to stick, way back in Iowa.
We were all very underwhelmed.
Come on Hillary! You're supposed to be "discrediting" and ""disqualifying" Bernie.
Honey, trust me, if you want to scare voters you need fresh talking points, not recycled, warmed-up leftovers that made Iowans sleepy.
Come on! Let's get this shit show started!

(21,086 posts)the mothers and fathers of the little ones killed at Sandy Hook can and have the right to sue the shit out of anyone they feel it is necessary to sue. No one needs the opinion of Bernie Sanders or Hilary Clinton to figure that out.
