Crain's New York: Cuomo beats Calif. to $15 minimum wage, then rallies for Clinton

Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave over his minimum-wage victory moment to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at a rally of union members Monday.

The state legislature passed a $15 minimum wage and paid family leave last week, proposals Cuomo championed with the support of local labor unions. The governor sought to tie those wins to the presidential contest at a victory rally turned Clinton campaign event at the Javits Center Monday.

Cuomo beat California and Gov. Jerry Brown to make New York the first state with a $15 minimum wage. Brown signed a similar bill about an hour after Cuomo. And unlike Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, Clinton does not support a national $15 minimum wage, but she nonetheless took a page out of Sanders' playbook and cheered Cuomo for helping to pave the way to "an increased minimum wage at the federal level."

I like this article because 1) it points out that Clinton DOES NOT support a $15 minimum wage but our neocon governor let her use the occasion for a photo op anyway. Also: 2) the last paragraph illustrates why Mayor DeBlasio has very limited usefulness as a Clinton supporter.

cities. Same in California when you adjust for the time it takes to get to $15. But, why tell me he tried truth. One could support a $200 an hour rate, although it would take over 100 years to phase in.
