2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI read this from a Hillary supporter...
"So much for "momentum". We all knew he'd win WI due to it being open, and the indies that would vote for him because they could. Plus (R) crossover votes. We can't forget those, either. With the upcoming CLOSED contests, the people who actually BELONG to the party can go about the business of selecting the candidate for our party."
I'm sorry, as a lifelong democrat...what the fuck happened to our big tent? Me = democrat = inclusive. Exclusive = republican = ???you???
You want to be exclusive....you might have a winger issue.
And just a little tidbit...the independent vote is the most important vote. Those that don't call themselves democrats or republicans. They make up the majority of voting age Americans....
and if your candidate is having problems landing them...you need to ask yourself a deeper question about their electability in the GE.

(11,546 posts)What did you say?
I would have said "yeah, I'm one of 'those' people - do you have a problem?" Seems like they would love for us not to be able to vote.

(12,081 posts)people at our table and in the building. It was loud and hard to hear. We had to almost shout to be heard while discussing who we were voting for, but yeah I said I was an Independent. I think they had a false sense that it was a closed caucus because the paper that you vote with has at the top a statement saying, "I consider myself a Democrat." But WA has an open caucus, so no matter what that piece of paper said, I had every right to be there and to vote and I did.

(11,546 posts)I know that so many feel that this is "their" party and that we as indys don't have a right to have a say in their party, but whoever is nominated and possibly elected as President, will be the President for ALL of us, not just the Dems or the Repubs. So I don't CARE that they don't like me having a say in "their" party. My state allows indys to vote in the Democratic primary and so I will.

(12,821 posts)That kind of MOMENTUM is what will be needed in the General Election.
I also like this assertion: "So much for 'momentum.' We all knew he'd win Wisconsin..." So apparently momentum is only evidenced by unexpected wins. lol

(1,301 posts)...I choose Bernie. He is more in line with my ideals than Hillary could ever hope to be.
If independents like him, great! I have a formerly republican niece that seems to love him. She was a Rand Paul supporter--go figure. I think that's more about feeling the candidate gets you than the actual platform. As far as I'm concerned, Bernie is the most democratic candidate we've had since Roosevelt. He has my vote because he is for the people not the corporations.
