2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo Team Hillary is about to begin Operation Backfire......
I guess her disapproval numbers are just too darn low.

(36,063 posts)Before tonite he needed to AVERAGE 57-ish. Sanders does face the daunting task of needing to continue on mostly winning streak. Going into states dominated by urban populations that won't be easy.
It looks like the Brock plan going forward is more application of paint to Sanders as a white patriarch who wants more guns on the street to help bern down Wall St.
Will that work, or will it backfire?
It doesn't have to work perfectly, but if it doesn't work well enough to protect Clinton from Sanders closing strongly out West, she can't win with only pledged delegates.
There in are the makings for a nausea generating recipe of abandonment by independents and a dem defeat in Nov.

(3,017 posts)I would guess if this report of going after Bernie harder is accurate we should see the beginning of it then. I'm sure the CNN hosts will let her dictate the conversation.

(13,776 posts)Operation Backfire it most certainly would be.
I posted this somewhere else tonight but I'm still wondering... Bernie has the momentum for sure, but because of the earlier primaries the numbers are not in his favor, at least not right now. I may wish it to be otherwise, but he really does have an uphill climb. So why are they worried?
I wonder whether they have information that us regular people don't. Because with Cruz looking stronger and with the RNC behind him (holding their noses, but still), how can it not be the stupidest idea in the history of politics to deliberately alienate Bernie's loyal and devoted supporters, if they're so sure that she has the superdelegates and the votes and everything? Why don't they just ignore Bernie and coast, if they have this in the bag?
The only two answers I can come up with are 1) they're committing political malpractice or 2) they know something--polls or Panamanian documents or indictments--the rest of us don't. I truly, honestly, sincerely don't want Hillary to look bad if she's the eventual nominee. I would vote for her in a heartbeat, if only because of who'll she be running against. But this is a very odd reaction to an underdog candidate.

(8,760 posts)If she can't win the state which twice elected her Senator, it redefines the race. It is impossible to spin, and would make 9 out of the last 10 victories, and this time in a closed primary with a diverse population.
They have seen this pattern over and over again.....as Bernie closes the gap....and this time, Bernie has plenty of time to devote to travelling the state. If Hillary did the same, it would call attention to the dramatically smaller crowds.
Plus, Bernie has more money to run ads, and we keep giving him more.
