The real story about the April debate in New York

A few days ago the Clinton Campaign proposed to debate in New York on any of three dates in April - April 4, April 14, or April 15.

The Sanders Campaign has balked at all three dates, wanting to choose the date themselves.

I guess they forgot that the April 14 date was THEIR original proposed date for the debate!

PRESS RELEASE

Sanders Campaign Statement on Debates

JANUARY 30, 2016

DES MOINES, Iowa – Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, issued the following statement Saturday on negotiations over additional debates:

“After refusing for months to participate in more debates, Secretary Clinton requested that the Democratic National Committee rules be changed and that a new debate take place in New Hampshire next week. We agreed pending an agreement on three future debates in March, April and May. Unfortunately, the Clinton campaign has not accepted debates we proposed on March 3 in Michigan and April 14 in New York. They apparently agreed to May 24 in California. The Clinton campaign, after not accepting Michigan, now says they want it. We are pleased to do it on March 3 before the Michigan primary provided the Clinton campaign will agree to Brooklyn, New York, on April 14. Why won’t they debate in Brooklyn? What’s the matter with Brooklyn?”

One has to wonder why they have a problem with April 14, especially since that was their idea in the first place!

2. Already discussed. They proposed in January. When no response

They made plans for a big rally in Washington Sq a Park which requires lots of red tape for permits, security, etc. That date is no longer available. Not strange at all. People make other plans in almost 3 months of silence.

I produce events. I know how much red tape a park event in NYC there is.

4. Make that 2 months (January 30).

I guess it's a good idea when THEY come up with it, a bad idea when someone else comes up with it.

Since you mentioned it, this "big rally which requires lot of red tape, etc." isn't even on their schedule of events for April 14.

Even more curious and strange!

January 30. That's light years ago in a political campaign. It was only the past few days that HRC offered 4/14.

Things change and now there's a scheduling conflict.

That's the real story.

Bottom line, it is political games being played by the Clinton camp that only fools the uninformed.

"One has to wonder why they have a problem with April 14, especially since that was their idea in the first place!"

He suggested that date in January. She had 3 months to commit to the date if she wanted it. the real question is, why doesn't she want to debate in NY?

And they haven't released the location yet.

Probably because the Secret Service has to give their okay and do a survey before they let people know.

understand that dates in a campaign don't stay open all the time. It's a very very busy time and candidates just are all over the country.

Here is where Clinton requested a debate

“After refusing for months to participate in more debates, Secretary Clinton requested that the Democratic National Committee rules be changed and that a new debate take place in New Hampshire next week. We agreed pending an agreement on three future debates in March, April and May.

Now here is where the Bernie campaign suggested dates that were open at the time

Unfortunately, the Clinton campaign has not accepted debates we proposed on March 3 in Michigan and April 14 in New York. They apparently agreed to May 24 in California.

Here is where Hillary uses a woman prerogative and changes her mind

The Clinton campaign, after not accepting Michigan, now says they want it.

Bernie being a gentleman accepts her changed decision on that debate

We are pleased to do it on March 3 before the Michigan primary

And Bernie would like to have a debate on this date, after all he has been very accommodating to Clinton as any one can see. Bernie is just a nice person

provided the Clinton campaign will agree to Brooklyn, New York, on April 14.

Now here is where you see that Bernie has been waiting for a response

Why won’t they debate in Brooklyn? What’s the matter with Brooklyn?”

Clinton seems to be stalling there. It seems she hasn't responded to his request to have a debate on that date. IMO it seem rather rude that she doesn't respond.

Now here is what you may not realize. Bernie is in the middle of a presidential campaign and here's what happens . Someone talks to Bernie about events, Bernie pulls out his calendar, oh look April 14 open we can have a big rally in New York!

Boom fill that date in on the calendar April 14 BIG RALLY IN NEW YORK

And here is where you need to put on your thinking cap okay?

This press release was put on Jan 30. Okay? Now the events chronicled in this press release have been going on all the month of Jan, possibly before. Okay?

It gets even trickier. When a candidate is running for president they do not sit on their ass twiddling their thumbs waiting for the other damn candidate to respond to their request to have a debate on a certain date. They do not keep that fucking date open just in case the other person finally decides to decides a couple months down the fucking road she wants to have a debate on that date

I hope I explained it easily enough for you to understand .

14. Why is Sanders implying that the Clinton campaign has a problem with Brooklyn? Smoke screen?
Mon Apr 4, 2016, 11:03 AM
Apr 2016

I guess this is HIS first primary that he's participating. He should probably do a little bit of reading, he might learn that Hillary Clinton's NATIONAL Campaign Headquarters are in.......you guessed it, BROOKLYN!

Nowhere on his campaign website does he mention (as of this morning) that he's holding a big rally on April 14, nor is there any mention of the time or location. As far as anyone knows, he pulled that one out at the last minute as his excuse.

And as late as yesterday his campaign was complaining about debating tonight, with the excuse "the NCAA Final is Monday, and Syracuse is participating in the tournament". Duh, Syracuse was eliminated SATURDAY night, yet he was still using it as an excuse.

As Sanders has proven time and again during this campaign, if it's not his idea it's not a good idea. Even when it originally was his idea.
