Watch: Bernie Sanders Blasts the Corporate Media for Failing to Talk About Real Issues

Bernie Sanders is in Los Angeles this week, and what better place to discuss the corporate media and its failings than the entertainment capital of the world. Last night, Sanders took a break from campaigning to join Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks for a conversation about how major networks fail to inform the public.

“What you have is a corporate media which has conflicts of interest,” Sanders told Uygur. “Comcast owns NBC and by definition has conflicts of interest. Comcast owns NBC [and] co-owns Disney. They’re paying their workers in Disney World $8 or $9 an hour, bringing in people from around the world to replace American workers. These are important issues that they don’t want to discuss.”

Today, six media conglomerates control almost all forms of mainstream American media, which means only a small handful of people are determining the content. Bernie Sanders believes that this violates our democracy because the public deserves divergent sources of information. Just look at how the media portrays Bernie Sanders. When CNN talks about a poll in which Bernie outperforms Hillary, they don’t even show the poll. They simply ask Clinton, in a sit-down town hall format, if she “buys that.”

“The model for media now is six-second sound bites and an unwillingness to talk about real issues in a serious way. [For example] the networks never talk about climate change. Does it have to do with the fact that they have a lot of coal and oil companies advertising? I think it does. Do you ever hear really serious discussions on why the middle class is disappearing? Healthcare? Have you seen Michael Moore’s movie Sicko?” Sanders asked.

One thing that I've noticed regarding corporate media conglomerate CNN from what little that I've viewed, over the past day or so, they have covered extensively the Trump/Cruz spat about their wives but I have seen nothing regarding the massive voter suppression in Arizona.

Bernie has condemned it calling the Arizona voter suppression a disgrace no matter who you were voting for, the Republican Governor of Arizona said it was wrong, the Mayor of Phoenix has asked the U.S Attorney General to launch an investigation, a petition asking the Obama Administration to launch an investigation has 73,000 signatures with a goal of 100,000.

Other than corporate media conglomerate silence on this issue, I haven't heard anything from Hillary yet, although I'm sure if she does condemn it, the CMCs will cover that from wall to wall, but as it's Bernie, the Governor of Arizona, the Mayor of Phoenix and at least 73,000 Americans have complained about this obvious attempt at voter disenfranchisement, you only hear crickets from the oligarch mouth pieces.

Sec. Hillary Clinton won Arizona by a large margin and has remained silent on the situation. Sen. Bernie Sanders expressed outrage, calling it “a disgrace”. “In the United States of America, democracy is the foundation of our way of life,” said Sanders. “And what happened in Arizona is a disgrace. I hope that every state in this country learns from that and learns how to put together a proper election where people can come in and vote in a timely manner and go back to work.”

In regards to Hillary's silence this is especially ironic as the Arizonians most likely disenfranchised from cutting 200+ polling places to 60 were Latino or Hispanic Americans and "supposedly" that was a strong demographic for her.

Hopefully the people in California will keep this in mind, although I imagine for political reasons Hillary will finally come out and condemn it before they vote.

This is clearly an issue threatening our democracy and should be condemned by all parties especially the mute "free press" corporate media conglomerates.

Back to the Future writer reveals Biff is based on Donald Trump

Back to the Future Part II didn’t get everything right in its predictions about life in 2015 – sorry, Chicago Cubs fans and flying car enthusiasts – but it did nail Donald Trump.

Trump, the current frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, was used as a basis for the alternate 1985 version of Biff Tannen, writer Bob Gale revealed in an interview with The Daily Beast.

“We thought about it when we made the movie! Are you kidding?” Gale said. “You watch Part II again and there’s a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office and there’s a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there’s one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait? Yeah.”

That future Biff was based on Trump should come as no surprise to the many people who have drawn comparisons between the fictional character and former reality star. As far back as two years ago, a Tumblr post focused on their similarities; in July, The Huffington Post published a story called “Donald Trump Is Biff Tannen From Back to the Future,” which detailed how the two men were alike – including references to their namesake hotels, multiple wives, and signature hair.

And to think the corporate media conglomerates gave this guy 1-2 billion dollars in free advertising, they couldn't get enough of him, that should scream to anyone as to where they're coming from.
