(22,871 posts)that holds that many people? This sounds like the same hyperbolic claim of a 7 mile line to see him elsewhere. For those who bought that, the line for Woodstock in 1969 was ten miles long.
angrychair
(8,727 posts)It doesn't hold that many. Most did not get in, there was almost as many outside as inside. He now regularly speaks to the group stuck outside for about 10-15 minutes before the actual event. He did that the first time he came to Seattle. The line was really that long. As a person that stood in line both times and missed getting in, both times, I can verify that. I saw then Senator Obama 4 different times and PBO twice and never had that issue. I am not going to lie and say I wish these crowds translated into larger responses at the voting both but I believe there are a number of valid reasons for that.

I suspect the 60,000 number is somewhat overstated (the estimate for Seattle was 16K, inside and outside) and for Spokane it was 10K inside and a large number outside. But its still an impressive demonstration of enthusiasm for Bernie.

(42,724 posts)But I'll go with confirmation since the campaign itself has put out a press release using 35,000 as the point of reference for the number of attendees (yes it says "more than", but if it was 25,000 more than 35,000 they wouldn't have said "more than 35,000" .
And 35,000 spread over three rallies is still impressive -- no need for folks to exaggerate the number.

(8,727 posts)That we pay for out of our own pocket, with no help from the DNC.
The teapublicans have a primary that they make the citizens of Washington pay to hold.
So, being a caucus, you won't get actual raw numbers.
I can tell you, unequivocally, that Washington is all in for Sanders.
marions ghost
(19,841 posts)People don't get this excited about a candidate in a primary. If they're in the crowd, they're voting, you betcha.

It's phenomenal.
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)that he is behind by 328 delegates .... a completely insurmountable lead.
marions ghost
(19,841 posts)--considering that he has been thwarted, not even considered a candidate worth media coverage-- it is not only amazing --it's phenomenal.
Sure the the PTB are making sure Hillary gets the nod. That's expected. They have the power, corporate power. They don't have the people's support. That spells trouble. Because the Hillary machine will do things like always, and the people grow more unhappy. Downtrodden people are unhappy, depressed. The country suffers. No progress.
The economic inequality problem has got to be addressed. If you will ONLY look at the graphs in this excellent post, you can see it:

cosmicone
(11,014 posts)It is the media's fault.
It is the PTB's fault.
It is the DNC's fault.
When is someone going to say, "our messaging was wrong and it did not resonate with a majority of the voters?"
And they have the gall to talk about "authenticity!"
marions ghost
(19,841 posts)The Bernie campaign messaging is working like crazy. He was NEVER expected to do this well.
And the obstacles have been Yuge.
It's an amazing story unfolding. His message caught like a prairie wildfire.

(8,727 posts)Seattle is 66% white, 14% Asian, 8% black and 7% Hispanic.
I cannot determine how you know the actual makeup of the crowd based on a couple of pictures but there you go.
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)in a picture with 100 people, 14 should be Asian, 8 should be black and 7 should be Hispanic amirite?
Even if there is a sampling variance of 80%, I should see at least 2 Asians, 1 black and one Hispanic in each of those pictures.
I see ZERO.
You ever been to Washington?
angrychair
(8,727 posts)Do not create a statistical analysis. Have you ever had a statistics class?
In a coin flip, statistically speaking, there is a 50/50 chance of either heads or tails.
Being 50/50 does not preclude you from getting 20 heads up in a row though or any other string of combinations that are not 50/50 in that smaller sample set.
By your logic, since roughly .7 people are in jail for every 100 people not in jail and I work with about 700 people in my building, at least 2 of them should be in jail but they are not in jail, they are at work.
See my point? In another sample set of 700 people, 4 or 5 might be in jail instead of at work. In another , only 1. Taken as a whole, on average, .716 people per 100 are in jail.
I was there, based on my observations, as well as past personal observation, there seemed to be more black people there than Asians or Hispanics. Does my personal observations constitute a statistical norm? No.
A random snapshot does not constitute a norm.
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)Still it doesn't wash that 100% of the crowd is white.
"Being in jail" is location specific and obviously someone who is "in jail" cannot be in a workplace -- big fail.
No diversity in Bernie's campaign - period.
by the way, "Ransom" sampling -- was that a Freudian slip of "Bernie or Bust?" -- the correct word is "Random"
angrychair
(8,727 posts)I am sure that his lead surrogates will find that troubling since they are both women and/or people of color, including a former head of the NAACP.
As I have clearly stated, statistics does not work how you framed it. The coin flip analogy is the clearest example I can give you.
It also a false to claim that all images are 100% white because that is very untrue.
Nice try, as you say, "fail".

The longest serving women in the history of Congress
A man of color who is a noted intellectual, activist and businessmen and former national leader of the NAACP
A women of color who is a noted activist and former state senator in Ohio
A man of color who is noted scholar, author and philosopher
as well as dozens of community activists, of all sexes and colors and sexual preferences, from across the country.

(8,727 posts)I am aware of the probability of 20 heads in a row.
My point was that a random photo, of any event, actually containing a viable sample set of the racial diversity of a given city is unlikely.
It is illogical to attempt to make any statement regarding the racial diversify at an event from a single photo. To assume that any given photo will have any or all members of each racial subset is a foolish assumption that creates poor science and false conclusions.
