2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThoughts on a Romney/Santorum ticket
Romney presents a "moderate" face for the indies and Santorum fires up the whackos. Not saying that they would win but it seems to me that, to even have a chance in November, Romney has to hold on to the conservative "base" somehow and will (likely) have to nominate somebody who can appeal to the teabaggers, fundies, etc. anyway. Given that Santorum has some momentum and can hold the teabaggers and Romney has the financial resources, what better way for the GOP to end their self-destructive primary the field for Mitt than to take Santorum out of the running and offer him the VP slot (assuming Santorum would accept)? Does anybody wonder if this is being considered? Would this even be a viable option for them? Would such a ticket pose a threat to Obama/Biden in November?

(37,540 posts)I could see Mitt offering Rick 2nd Prize if this delegate splitting continues past Super Tuesday. I don't think Mitt gives a rat's ass about the VP slot...he wants tobe President and if giving the VP to Rick consolidates the delegates in his column...why not? Whether that actually enhances his chances in the GE...lets just say, I'm a big supporter of this ticket!

(32,006 posts)If they do polling for a Romney/Santorum ticket and it shows them taking Pennsylvania then Santorum will be offered the job. But if he can't bring his home state he won't get the bid. Modern presidential nominees always do polling for their possible VP choices. I think Rubio will be taken.

(7 posts)Does America have time to waste on a "push-me/pull-u"??? I believe they're thinking one of them will be the other's running mate!! Heaven forbid! And the GOP has the 'say' right now? Obama/Biden have reelection in the bag from everyone I've talked with!! All three supposed Republican leaders have stepped on their 'cranks' one way or another in the last month...one way or another. So now, Santorum's in front; but he say's Obama is Islamic and not Christian? And because he's Roman Catholic, has he confessed his sins? He needs to get a life!!
