2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumQuestion for Bernie supporters.
Hello friends. I know there are some Bernie supporters who said that they would not vote for Clinton if she wins the primary. What if she wins the primary and chooses Bernie as the Vice President? Would you vote for that ticket?

(14,255 posts)Bernie would be horribly wasted as VP - although I am sure that Hillary would love to get Bernie (and Warren) sidelined out of the Senate.

too bad there isnt an offsite place where they could discuss and strategize.........

(14,255 posts)But, seriously, folks - maybe we should have a separate Pledge-y Thing Group.
Then I could just trash it. Although I admit is is fun to spot the (very few) different approaches. Polls, A Concerned Bernie Supporter, You Bernie Supporters Better Do What I say Or You Are All Stupidheads!!!!

(12,655 posts)and yes, they are getting quite creative with the different types. A for effort!!
Like that would happen.
I don't want to see Clinton on my ballot in November in any form.
I would not support a Clinton/Sanders ticket. If Bernie doesn't get the nomination, I want him back in the Senate, not under Hillary Clinton's thumb.
I hope that answers your question clearly enough.
mucifer
(23,553 posts)But, I don't want to.
I personally believe more people will consider voting for Hillary in the general if Bernie is willing to travel with Hillary and give campaign speeches with her.
I know in the past he has said he will support her if he doesn't get the nomination. But, things are really heating up right now. He might just verbally endorse her. We will have to wait and see how things shake out.

(32,864 posts)Do you HRC folks pay attention to anything he's been saying.

(11,605 posts)But she would have to agree to give him a role similar to recent VP's, not just a token figurehead.
onecaliberal
(32,864 posts)There is zero chance of that happening.

(6,960 posts)That's half of what we read here on DU ... constant discussion about ... Hispanics aren't for Bernie; blacks aren't for Bernie; where are the Jews for Bernie; Millennials don't like Hillary; women are traitors if they aren't for Hillary; etc.
If there is one thing Democrats are very good at it is putting people into groups.
It is a simple observation understanding the dynamics of the Democratic Party in 2016: you won't see a homogeneous ticket (depending on how you want to define that).

(5,761 posts)it sure caught me off guard

(14,177 posts)Hillary is losing support every single day with every single thing she says.

(14,733 posts)I would be incredibly disappointed in Bernie if that happened.
I vote on the policies of the President to be, not whether or not they shove someone I support into the number 2 spot.

(17,469 posts)not when it is an HRC trial balloon.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)But that wouldn't help the ticket. There are others better for the position. Additionally, if Sanders loses the primary, his endorsement of Clinton will be big. He won't hold back. Warren and Sanders endorsing her on the same night from the same stage will start the healing process. Some will never vote for Clinton period. Those aren't where the attention will be focused.
democrattotheend
(11,605 posts)At least, I hope he does. I honestly believe he got into this more to raise issues and give the race a strong progressive voice than he did expecting to win or even come this far. So I hope that if he does not win he will get her to commit to some of his positions. Maybe not to Medicare for all, but if he at least gets her to commit to pushing a $15 minimum wage that would be big progress.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)But he would be in no position to demand at that point. Can you imagine what you just said in reverse?

As for myself, I will support the Democratic candidate, begrudgingly if it's Hillary.

I doubt he would make such a politically disastrous move.

(34,111 posts)1. It is none of your damned business how any of us vote.
2. I feel if Bernie would even consider being a VP to Hillary I would know that I had made a huge mistake in judgement.
3. My vote is between me and me and maybe me.
4. Maybe these threads would be of better use on a banner to hang in High School because this is some really immature crap. Over and over again.
5. I feel like poster number one, best answer of all. I have been and always will be a big old lefty and that is how I vote. Take that however you wish, I could not actually care less what you think of that.

(137 posts)I'll be voting for the Democrat nominee no matter who it is. Both Sanders and Clinton are far better than Trump or Cruz. If you choose not to vote because Clinton is the nominee and she loses the Presidency, you can't complain about shit. The same goes if Sanders is the nominee. You let it happen because you were too busy whining and crying in your cereal. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! Sissies.

Gore made a huge mistake picking Lieberman. As did McCain with Sarah Palin... that choice made me go from looking at McCain as someone I opposed but could live with if necessary to someone that must be opposed at all costs.

(72,790 posts)No more Clintons is a dumb statement. It's something I expect a Republican to say. What was wrong with Bill Clinton? His economic policies worked. He raised taxes on the rich. Twenty two million new jobs were created in his 8 years which is the most in history. He paid down the debt every year and balanced the budget his last 4 years in office. He was the first President since Eisenhower to balance the budget. He was fiscally responsible unlike the previous Presidents.
liberal_at_heart
(12,081 posts)at least a million jobs if not more. He got rid of Glass-Steagal which set the stage for 2008 and millions more lost jobs.

(354 posts)his presidency was nothing but one scandal after another (with her eagerly participating). The republicans will have to do a tv add of one scandal every day to get all of them out in the time between her selection and her loss in the general.
Why else do you think her negatives are over 50 percent even among democrats?

jeebus would have to stop its goonish BrondoPAC from swiftboating the progressive/liberal-left base, and that won't happen because it's jeebus's trademark. It's what made $jeebus$ into $$jeebus$.
So we've got a ratfucked swiftboated progressive/liberal-left base, listening while these goons talk incessantly about how "Berniebros" are racist misogynists led by a tone deaf faker who pretends to be Rappaport. And that's just to start the day.
So it won't happen, not even given however number of "loyalty oath" posts which always follow after the swiftboat takes another turn down the rapids. As a reader/contributer to DU who, being a "progressive white guy", has been thoroughly swiftboated, I didn't take too kindly to the political experience. In my opinion, swiftboating should be left with the Republicans, since it defines Republican thought.
So I'd say NO. I don't think another loyalty oath thread will do the trick.

(94,601 posts)...whose election is partly dependent on the top of the ticket, wants Clinton rather than Sanders....even progressives like Russ Feingold and Sherrod Brown and Al Franken.
I take a very cold, calculating attitude about the candidates I support, and will throw them over the side if they can't perform (I switched from Clinton to Obama in 2008); cognitive dissonance has nothing to do with my thinking when the money I'm spending is on the line.
