In Ohio, Clinton Opposes Obama Auto Parts Trade Standard
By LISA LERER, ASSOCIATED PRESS CLEVELAND Mar 12, 2016, 10:36 PM ET
Hillary Clinton wants stricter rules on auto imports than the Obama administration negotiated in a sweeping Pacific trade deal that's a major priority for the White House.
Under the Trans-Pacific Partnership, automobiles could be imported tax-free into the U.S. even if most parts in those vehicles were made in countries that are not in the trade alliance.
That's drawn opposition from auto-state senators, such as Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown, who say it would encourage manufacturers to use cheaper parts from China, which is not part of the agreement.
"It's one of the reasons I oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership," said Clinton, campaigning with Brown in Youngstown on Saturday night. "When I saw what was in it, it was clear to me there were too many loopholes, too many opportunities for folks to be taken advantage of."
Despite her tougher line, Clinton did not specify what standard on domestic auto parts she would favor as she campaigned in advance of the Ohio presidential primaries Tuesday. The Pacific trade deal can only be accepted or rejected by Congress in full not further negotiated so her position underscores her opposition to the agreement.

(1,642 posts)7. She was for the TPP until she was against it.
She referred to as the gold standard for trade agreements. That was supposedly before she saw what was in the bill, because it was negotiated in top-secret fashion.
Then after seeing what was in it (or rather seeing how strongly Bernie/unions/American people were opposed to it), she's now against it.
This is why we refer to her campaign as camp weathervane.

So if that's the only cherry that sunk the trade deal. What exactly is she against?

Sadly, many Ohio voters who aren't paying attention will actually fall for this ploy, and think she's any sort of protectionist.
