DNC 1992- Testimony of Elizabeth Glaser and of Bob Hattoy spoken to the convention which

nominated Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton would have heard these speeches. These quotes can be seen in full context at the links provided. Both speeches are worth reading and both contain a good deal of other material and a great deal of hope and praise surrounding Bill Clinton and the end of the Reagan Bush nightmare.

Bob Hattoy:
"AIDS is a disease of the Reagan-Bush years. The first case was detected in 1981, but it took 40,000 deaths and seven years for Ronald Reagan to say the word "AIDS." It's five years later, 70,000 more dead and George Bush doesn't talk about AIDS, much less do anything about it."

Elizabeth Glaser:
" Exactly four years ago my daughter died of AIDS. She did not survive the Reagan Administration. I am here because my son and I may not survive four more years of leaders who say they care, but do nothing. I -- I am in a race with the clock. "
" I went to Washington to tell Presidents Reagan and Bush that much, much more had to be done for AIDS research and care, and that children couldn't be forgotten. The first time, when nothing happened, I thought, "They just didn't hear me." The second time, when nothing happened, I thought, "Maybe I didn't shout loud enough." But now I realize they don't hear because they don't want to listen.

When you cry for help and no one listens, you start to lose your hope. I began to lose faith in America. I felt my country was letting me down -- and it was. This is not the America I was raised to be proud of."

I had not thought to look elsewhere, good for you.

That was so outrageous then, scary and sad and helpless. Those who were trying to put it all together were ignored and denied the support needed to try and stop it. We were so stunned that they could hate so much, those "good christians" that they would let the suffering get worse and the bodies pile up. I could not be more disgusted by the comments yesterday. The longer it gets from the comments the madder I get. It was torture for a large community and all the friends and families. To try to color those who let it go on as good people who tried to help is nauseating. I can't let this go. Thank you.
