(20,234 posts)not directly related to voting - but last time I went to get my driver's license renewed, I got rejected. I am also a military veteran, had a top secret clearance, and yet they wouldn't renew my driver's license without my birth certificate to prove I'm a US citizen. So I found mine (amazing that I could!) and went in a second time. Then they rejected it because it was a copy!
So I had to pay to get an official copy from the state where I was born. And $10 later it showed up - and it was also a xerox. That's what they send out, it's not like the hospital is going to send their only original copy. I had to argue at the DMV to get them to accept it.
It doesn't surprise me at all that so many people are having problems with the ID requirements. I've got internet access and a clean history and the driver's license, and a credit card so I was able to order one online, and used to have a government passport, and my old army ID - it should have been a piece of cake for me.
It also gave me a better understanding of the whole pile of crap Obama had to deal with, with birthers claiming his birth certificate wasn't "real".

Thank you.
