"The Boss Has Changed His Mind"! :)

Rocker Bruce Springsteen once said he wouldn't perform during the 2012 presidential campaign.
.

President Obama's campaign said today that Springsteen will appear along with ex-President Bill Clinton a pro-Obama rally Thursday in Parma, Ohio.

"Bruce Springsteen's values echo what the President and Vice President (Biden) stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity," said Jim Messina, Obama for America's campaign manager. "His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support."

I think it would not hurt and might even have a slight beneficial effect. It might help some
Springsteen fans who are also basically Dems to have another reason to make the effort to vote. Obviously, there are Republican Springsteen fans (look at Chris Christie) and they won't change but there might be a little push on the Dem fans...just sayin'.

WOW! Wish I could go to any political rally like this. California is a gimme, so the only rally that come anywhere near me is too pricey. I've seen "The Boss" 3 or 4 times, but President Clinton too? That will be such a great event for sure!!!!!!

~~*~~

Memory of POTUS' past that you'll love !

When I was 7, in 1963, my Daddy took us to see President Kennedy in San Diego. He (my dad) had a friend who owned an auto muffler shop facing El Cajon Blvd. which was to be the route for JFK's motorcade. All of "us kids" got into the back of this wood framed bed type apple cider house style truck & the vehicle was lifted up high above the crowd lined street.

The President of the United States went slowly down the street as the crowds on both sides of the street cheered...We were so high up we saw the convertible (a Lincoln I think) and President John Fitzgerald Kennedy waved to ME! It was so much fun & it was my first introduction to politics.

My parents were democrats, but I didn't know that then. What I did know is that 1963 was the last year he was alive, & I was fortunate to have my first presidential or even political memory be this one.

My father used to explain the difference between republicans & democrats when I got a little older by saying this..."Democrats vote with everyone in mind. Republicans vote with themselves in mind."

Thank you DU for being here. I discovered y'all this past summer & after reading so much online, DU was & is a breath of fresh air. Once I began my Bruce,Bill, & OHio post this 49 year old memory popped into my head & for the 1st time in a while now, I knew y'all would appreciate the story.

Have a Grrrreat weekend & enjoy the "Biden afterglow!"

My late husband and I were married one week after JFK was assassinated. We heard the news as we were getting our blood tests. We honeymooned in New Orleans, which was bustling with strange vibes. At my bridesmaids' luncheon, the bandstand was draped in black. Needless to say, we had no music. If you are wondering, the wedding was in Birmingham, Alabama. All of the store windows were draped in black with large photos of the President.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN ~ Youngstown

Here in northeast Ohio
Back in eighteen-o-three
James and Dan Heaton
Found the ore that was linin' Yellow Creek
They built a blast furnace
Here along the shore
And they made the cannonballs
That helped the Union win the war

Here in Youngstown
Here in Youngstown
My sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down
Here darlin' in Youngstown

Well my daddy worked the furnaces
Kept 'em hotter than hell
I come home from 'Nam worked my way to scarfer
A job that'd suit the devil as well
Taconite coke and limestone
Fed my children and make my pay
Them smokestacks reachin' like the arms of God
Into a beautiful sky of soot and clay

Here in Youngstown
Here in Youngstown
Sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down
Here darlin' in Youngstown

Well my daddy come on the Ohio works
When he come home from World War Two
Now the yard's just scrap and rubble
He said "Them big boys did what Hitler couldn't do."
These mills they built the tanks and bombs
That won this country's wars
We sent our sons to Korea and Vietnam
Now we're wondering what they were dyin' for

Here in Youngstown
Here in Youngstown
My sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down
Here darlin' in Youngstown

From the Monongahela valley
To the Mesabi iron range
To the coal mines of Appalachia
The story's always the same
Seven hundred tons of metal a day
Now sir you tell me the world's changed
Once I made you rich enough
Rich enough to forget my name

And Youngstown
And Youngstown
My sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down
Here darlin' in Youngstown

When I die I don't want no part of heaven
I would not do heaven's work well
I pray the devil comes and takes me
To stand in the fiery furnaces of hell
