2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEveryone stop, just stop. Bernie is GOING NOWHERE...at all. It's 5 vs. 6 state wins tonight....
for Hillary...maybe 4 vs. 7 if MA falls out for Bernie, but in the next round of states, Bernie is ahead.
Also, in 2008 HRC was ahead against BHO on Super Tuesday also. Bernie is in great shape, and just getting started.

Also I won't stop listening to Emmylou Harris. I would in fact question the very sanity of anyone who could stop listening to "Boulder to Birmingham."

(25,586 posts)You really think he's got huge, delegate-rich wins ahead? that seems delusional.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)The formula for delegates awarded to each state takes into account the recent general election results from that state. States that reliably vote for the Republican in the general election have fewer delegates per person.
For example, Texas has 2/3rds the population of CA. It has less than half the delegates of CA (222 vs 475)
Tonight is red-state-heavy. That leaves plenty of room to make up for having fewer delegates tonight.

(22,000 posts)Although she won 20 more delegates on THAT night, she ended up losing Super Tuesday by 17 delegates. The final tally was:
Obama: 849
Clinton: 832
It's also worth mentioning she went on to LOSE the next 11 primary and caucuses by 125 delegates.

(26,549 posts)Tonight has 20%.
I say that as someone with a sense of memory and a sense of arithmetic.
Codeine
(25,586 posts)Where is Bernie's margin? What delegate-rich states does he blow her out in?
jeff47
(26,549 posts)Again, there's still 80% of the delegates to go. You don't need a blow-out to win when that many are still up for grabs.
Codeine
(25,586 posts)Impossible? Of course not. Likely? I really doubt it.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)You really don't seem to understand proportional results.
Let's say Clinton's 51-48 lead in MA holds up. That means she gets roughly 3 more delegates (I'm not sure if the winner gets extra, that's based on percentage * 91 pledged delegates).
Where, oh where can Sanders get a massive blow-out to make up for those 3 delegates?!?!?!
The South is far more conservative than the rest of the country. Tonight's results are South-heavy. We're currently in the best races for Clinton. The rest of the country is not nearly as conservative as the South.
All of the media including superdelegates in the delegate counts is not serving you well.
Codeine
(25,586 posts)I'm not talking about three delegates. MA is essentially a tie either way. I'm talking about the huge delegate advantage she takes home tonight.
Where does he win enough to beat that?
jeff47
(26,549 posts)Again, the rest of the country is far less conservative than the South. And the delegate formula gives them more delegates than the South (the formula penalizes states that reliably vote for Republicans in the general election).
Which ones specifically? We'll see. Or we won't see. My entire point is this is not nearly as "over" as you are trying to claim.
Codeine
(25,586 posts)I'll happily color the Sanders circle if you guys can pull it out.

(45,319 posts)It's conservative. They vote that way and their conservatism is demonstrated in their laws, such as the laws that allow discrimination or laws that lock the youth up for things that are perfectly legal in other places which are not so conservative. Some of the States Hillary won retained laws against same sex activity until 2003 when SCOTUS ruled those laws to be unconstitutional.
But your argument is they are not conservatives and all of that bullshit is delivered to them by nature or by God and not by their own actions?

Hillary Clinton 2016: DC Lobbyists Set To Raise Cash For Hillary Victory Fund
BY ANDREW PEREZ @ANDREWPEREZDC AND DAVID SIROTA @DAVIDSIROTA ON 02/29/16 AT 6:32 PM
The Democratic National Committees recent move to end its ban on contributions from federal lobbyists was widely seen as a boost to Hillary Clintons campaign, which has ties to the Washington lobbying community. Clinton already appears to be taking advantage of the shift.
On Mar. 21, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and a handful of lobbying titans are scheduled to host a fundraiser for the Hillary Victory Fund, a joint fundraising account for the Clinton campaign, the DNC and 32 state parties. According to an invitation obtained by the Sunlight Foundation, Podestas co-hosts include Steve Elmendorf, Jeff Forbes and Susan Brophy all of whom were government officials before becoming lobbyists at top D.C. firms. The event with Podesta whose brother is a corporate lobbyist and fundraising bundler for Clinton follows a recent fundraising blitz by Clinton in which her campaign raised money from financial, energy and other industries that expect to have business before the next president.

He wants sick people to get treatment that doesn't bankrupt them. He want's kids to be able to start a life without a huge burden of debit because they went to college. He wants to keep our service people safe by not fighting wars we don't have to and if we have to he wants to make sure our vets are taken care of. He started his campaign with a we because if this is the kind of life that we want for our people it's going to take all of us.

(13,881 posts)If they wanted to drag it out with Bernie he would have been on more from the get go. There were big marches all over the country last week in support of him and there was a media black out about it. Trump, on the other hand poses no threat to the existing corporate structure so he's om 24/7 for ratings.

(146 posts)As a Hillary supporter who felt the pain of her loses in 2008, I can understand holding on to that last bit of hope. Mathematically possible or not Bernie is putting up a great fight and will continue until the very end.
See you all at the convention. I want to see this all played out and when it's all said and done, no matter how painful it is, I hope we all can set aside our differences and come together for whoever is our democratic nominee would be.
