Related: About this forumIn response to "ignore SC vote" thread, should my GA be ignored too?
What other states?
Will we know now, or only after the results?
Thanks

(10,164 posts)Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Yes, FOAD means "f*ck off and die" but this is in response to a thread basically minimizing the importance of the civic duty of voting, so I am going to vote to leave it.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

(10,164 posts)I just don't like how you expressed it and voted to hide (nothing remotely personal...I always vote to hide that kind of post). But I don't disagree with your viewpoint on having your state dismissed broadly.
Yes, whether or not a state is one a party has any real hope of winning matters in terms of campaign planning, etc. Matters a lot... That doesn't mean you ignore that state's primary preferences, or dismiss its voters in terms of the GE.
Of course, the obvious best option is to dissolve the anti-democratic Electoral College and directly elect the president so that everyone's vote matters equally.

If it is not impressive, and in this case, by margin of victory; perhaps, we should just hold the Democratic primaries in states that Democrats will win in?

(14,733 posts)But I am just assuming Clinton will win all deep red states. So they're not part of the path I see towards a Sanders nomination. I guess you could call that an 'ignore' if you want to. But that's your call, not mine.

(18,402 posts)The fact that they live in red states has zero impact on this race for the nomination. And the person who wins the most Democratic delegates to the convention wins the nomination. So I'd ignore these "red" states at your peril. They are just as much a part of the path to the nomination as any state.
(And BTW, Clinton won the great big blue states of NY and CA in the 2008 primary.)
MineralMan

Vermont, on the other hand, will count plenty, except for the number of delegates it sends to the convention.

(6,282 posts)MineralMan
(146,333 posts)It's all about the delegate count. GA awards 102. Texas awards 222. Alabama awards 53. Minnesota has 77 delegates to award, proportionally, like all of the states.
Nothing else matters, really.

(146,333 posts)I do not really know anything about you. Further, you are not the only one reading my reply. I tend to post factual information, rather than just state my opinion about something. I find that far more useful when I read post from other people, too.
Sorry if I provided more information than you needed. From now on, if you let me know what you know about something, I'll be able to custom-tailor my reply to your needs.

Gothmog
(145,595 posts)We have a ton of delegates
You have 222 pledged delegates. California has only 33% more people, but has more than double the pledged delegates (475).
The formula for delegates takes in to account past general election results. Texas last voted for a Democrat in the general election in 1976. http://www.270towin.com/states/Texas
As a result, Texas has fewer delegates-per-person than other states. IIRC, Texas has the worst delegate-to-person ratio this cycle.
So while you have the most delegates on this super Tuesday, you don't have as much of an effect at the convention as other states.
Gothmog
(145,595 posts)Sanders is not polling well in California according to the latest polls that I have seen http://www.field.com/fieldpollonline/subscribers/Rls2522.pdf By the time California rolls around, the process will be over. Again with proportionate voting, it will be hard to catch Clinton after Super Tuesday. Losing California by 11 points is not a great way to become the nominee.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)Lose all Super Tuesday states by, say, 5% and he's still in the race.
CA's had virtually no attention since their primary is in June. We'll just have to see where things go.

(45,120 posts)it's all over for Bernie. There are many states to go. Bernie will win some he will lose some. We ignore the sting of one loss in a state and go on.

(45,120 posts)Yes if Bernie loses I will ignore the loss in SC. If Bernie loses GA ,OK VT or CO or any other state I will ignore the loss of that state too and concentrate on the next. Bernie will win some he will lose some. One or two losses does not end it. I will ignore the nonsense that because he loses a few early states he needs to drop out.

(26,549 posts)The formula for delegates takes into account past general election results. The last time GA voted for a Democrat in the general election was 1992. http://www.270towin.com/states/Georgia
As a result, GA gets fewer delegates-per-person at the convention.
So are you upset that the DNC does this, or only upset when others point out GA reliably votes for the Republican in the general election?

You can lead a horse to water .....
The old Confederacy never or rarely votes for even moderate democrats, so, whatever sentiments you harbor that democrats should not ignore the south runs right up against the fact that the south is not interested in anybody but right wing demagogues ...
Why waste our resources in a place that is patently AGAINST any sort of liberal policy making?
You wanna bring your state into contention for Democrats? ... CHANGE SOME MINDS ...
Otherwise, it's still a money pit where Democrat party resources go to die ....
What's the point again?

23. Yeah, and it is time to do this
Everyone needs to come to grips with the fact that the privileged white male has been very, very good for this society. That thru that privilege our human society have great things upon which our easy lives' rest. Our unions and our work ethic have resulted in all of us living like only the few kings and queens did 100 years ago.
I am a wm and I'm proud and privileged.

52. My opinion
Since our society is making progress and slowly dropping the wall of privilege, or glass ceiling, the society as a whole will improve. Be better.
But it is what it is and we can thank the wm, as a whole, for producing the easy life we now enjoy. The US and Europe have it very, very good historically, and imo, it has to do with the affirmative action the wm embraced and made good with.

(24,853 posts)Though the Hillary club will scream that since New Hampshire has less blacks than Georgia; it's less of a state. It's as if a state with more PoC in it is more important than other states and thus its citizens are worth more or something.
I tend to see each state as equal no matter who lives there.
So, yeah. Georgia carries as much weight with me as New Hampshire does.

(2,161 posts)I'm a Bernie supporter, but won't disparage voters of any state.
I'm a big fan of South Carolina State Rep. Justin Bamberg, he's a supporter of Bernie and co-counsel to the family of Walter Scott. He's going to continue getting out the word about Bernie Sanders.
Bernie and Bernie's supporters need to keep reaching out to the 99% with our message. We can't give up on anyone; that's not the way of Bernie's campaign.
