The Truth About the Turnout Scare Among Democrats

A lot of people are worried about the low voter turnout thus far on the Democratic side. IMHO, there are 2 major factors.

1. Donald Trump. He's bringing out the racist vote in ways a standard Republican wouldn't. The Democratic Party can't really do anything about this except to expose Trump as the empty suit he really is.

2. Barack Obama. I honestly think the bigger reason to explain the low turnout is because we're coming off a fairly popular Democratic Presidency and people are tuned out of the primary battle. I think more people will turn out in the General Election.

Just my 2 cents.

I think the two reasons the Republicans have higher turnout is:

1. They have been out of power (presidency) for eight years and they are hungry to have a president from their party like we were after W.
2. They have an anti-establishment candidate (most voters are turned off by establishment politics).

with an unknown ending. The R's have, people want to be part sorting it out with their vote.

The Dem establishment has tried to sell inevitability. Who needs to vote when there's no need to help sort it out?

The Dem establishment don't want the voters to sort it out in the Primaries. They want Hillary period. If they get Hillary then they will encourage the voters to get involved (big of them). Sadly it might be too little, too late by then.

Edit: By the way that was an excellent observation. Thank you.

who cares about participating in the inevitable?

there'd better be a genuine shift in attitude, starting with the DNC, come the general or this is going to be 1980 all over again
at least in 1980 we still had congress

Change followed.

I can tell you that nothing makes you think and yearn for change more than a failed crop and the long winter waiting to get it right next year when the weather breaks.

I'm not afraid of losing.

It clears the mind and changes the paths chosen.
